Nebraska farmers face a strong year with forecasts of the sixth largest corn crop at 254,880,000 bushels and per acre yields around 36. Potatoes sugar beets and dry beans also show gains over last year while hail cuts affect hidden areas in the Panhandle.
More than two million dollars in FHA loans have been issued to Cheyenne County residents since 1935. Holger Holm, FHA Omaha director, reports 693 borrowers approved for loans totaling 2,023,114 dollars. Of these, 374 were for homes and 319 for repairs, with no apartment construction funded.
Five percent of western Nebraska potatoes were damaged by a sudden freeze last week. The Potato Development Division reports about 200000 bushels affected, from 4000000 still to harvest. Expected western late crop production tops 10 million bushels, about equal to 1940s levels and 40 percent above 1951. Quality should be average due to past heat and dryness, though cool frost-free periods boosted yields and tuber size.
The Kimball County Farm Bureau will be divorced from its sponsorship of the extension service on October 22 when a county extension service board is elected. Harold Foote, president, said voters will choose one board member from each precinct plus three ex officio members. The split aims to completely separate the Farm later, with current activities remaining in the County Agent's office.
Ninety nine Cheyenne county residents join 650 Wesleyan students this year with 18 states and four countries represented. Sidney students include Kenneth Bagby Collete Dissmore John Harden Carol Ladine Marilyn Linton. Lodgepole and Potter residents Marlene Bond Janice Anderson Patsy Hagemeister Jo Ann Hagemeister contribute to the Cheyenne county count.
Plans completed for the Annual Nebraska Wheat Show in Hastings on Friday November 7 with over 1000 expected attendees. Entries cover certified wheat seed FFA and 4 H grown wheat and commercial wheat in three divisions and a Nebraska Wheat Queen contest with a queen from a family dependent on wheat income.
Cheyenne County seeks nominees for the 1952 Nebraska State Wheat Queen to be crowned at Hastings on November 7. County Agent Ivan Liljegren urges groups to sponsor a candidate. ten wheat samples suffice. Nominations must reach the local agent’s office by 4 p.m. Thursday October 30.
Sidney High School outlines homecoming events with an afternoon parade at 3 45 led by the band and a coronation during halftime of the Sidney Ogallala football game. A pep rally follows at Illinois and 10th Avenue with a call for alumni participation.
The event in Sidney features a 10 am Wednesday field demonstration at the Cheyenne County Fair Grounds by geophysicists from the General Geophysical Company and Ohio Oil Company. A public truck exhibit will run about an hour and show seismograph procedures used to determine subsurface oil structures using drilling dynamite and recording gear.
Residents signed petitions to organize an Elks Lodge in Sidney. A gathering Sunday afternoon at Yendis Cafe will include state officers to aid the formation, with Leon Fine and others handling local plans and a hoped four hundred members.

Attorney P. J. Heaton, a longtime Democrat, issued a challenge for a fifteen minute debate on KSID. He proposed topics including Government corruption Foreign policy and domestic policy and said participants would pay their own time. Heaton is open to any time.
Cheyenne County donors contributed 170 pints of blood as the Blood for Freedom train halted in Sidney on Thursday and Friday. 225 donors were checked with 55 rejected for issues such as high blood pressure and anemia. Mrs. Carl Olson led VFW Auxiliary volunteers, praising the strong community response and cooperation. The train, a Red Cross and Union Pacific joint effort, plans a return in about three months.
Morrill County's Hart No 1 wildcat near Bridgeport is expected to yield about 100 barrels per day once pumping begins. Ohio Oil Co. operates several wells in western Nebraska, with guesses varying on potential output. Local drilling in Cheyenne and Kimball counties reports mixed results including gas shows and oil finds in multiple locations.
Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co. will build a 28 mile pipeline to connect gas reserves east of Sterling with a line north of Julesburg Nebraska. A temporary 4 inch line will be laid first entering Logan County from Nebraska and ending 12 miles east of Sterling. The plan depends on negotiations with producers and may extend west later. The Kirk Johnson well nearby is producing over 10 million cubic feet per day and a LaGloria wildcat east of the South Platte tested about 2 million.
Sidney's Oil Progress Week features Charles Z. Hardwicke of The Ohio Oil Co as principal speaker. The program includes an Americanism film, petroleum exhibits, a model display contest by students, and a geophysical seismic demonstration at the fairgrounds.
