Public Works Plans Bustling Statewide Projects

Several public works projects are planned for the coming months across Nebraska. Sidney faces a 1000000 remodeling of its sewage plant and a 375000 runway extension at the municipal airport requiring highway realignment. Kimball plans a 400000 recreational development, while Wheat Belt and Tri State advance power and transmission projects. A statewide, 1.3 million Sidney to Stegall line package frames new sub stations and lines with completion aimed for next June 1. Public housing for the elderly may be proposed in Sidney, and Memorial Hospital may add 20 beds. The city also seeks an I O O F senior citizens home costing about 1500000 with local backing and statewide support.

Farm Bill Boosts Cheyenne County Wheat Income to $700000

The four year farm bill now awaiting President Johnson's signature is expected to add about $700000 annually to Cheyenne County wheat income. Cheyenne County USC officials caution the exact impact needs study though observers consider the figure reasonably accurate. The bill affects wheat and feed grains, with broad price and production controls including a guaranteed minimum wheat price and a 40 million acre cropland adjustment.

Rehab Program At Sioux Depot To Be Studied

The State Board of Education will study locating a center for the mentally retarded emotionally disturbed and physically handicapped at Sioux Army Depot near Sidney. Financed by federal state and local funds it would serve western Nebraska from North Platte to the West. Fred Novak said the depot could house a low scale sheltered workshop rehabilitation center. A survey of western Nebraska rehabilitation needs will precede any facility approval.

Panhandle forecast with light showers and mild temps

Partly cloudy conditions persist through this afternoon tonight and Thursday with possible light showers tonight. Low 35 to 45 high 60 to 70. Five day outlook calls for near normal temperatures with frequent day to day changes highs 60 65 lows 35 40 and scattered light showers throughout the period.

Leo Bolin administrator at Memorial Hospital Sidney will become president of the Nebraska Hospital Association during the Lincoln convention held Thursday and Friday. Attendees from Sidney include Mr and Mrs Bolin Mrs Lester Hand Jr and several local officials. Principal speaker at the Thursday evening session is Charles W Ferguson senior editor of The Reader's Digest.

Trio Held For Theft Of Bedding At Western Motel

Three men Oscar Vega 23 Los Angeles Reinaldo R Lorenzo 32 New York City Lucio Garcia 21 New York City were arrested at the west edge of Sidney for stealing pillows and a blanket from the Western Motel in Kimball. The items were found in their 1965 Chevrolet Rent-A-Car and the suspects admitted the theft. They face probable charges of petit larceny in Kimball.

Grand Opening and Car Showing at Cadillac-Olds Agency

Williams-Larabee Co. announces a grand opening this week for their Cadillac-Oldsmobile dealers in the area. Jim Williams and Stan Larabee, now jointly running the agency, host the event with unveiling of 1966 Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles, including the Toronado, plus a Sidney band fund benefit and a tires giveaway. The showcase runs from Thursday evening to nine p.m. Saturday at 8th Ave and Illinois St.

Grant dominates as Twins tie World Series at 3-3

Mudcat Grant pitched brilliantly and hit a two run homer to power the Minnesota Twins to a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, evening the series at three games apiece. Harmon Killebrew muffed a routine error, but the Twins received solid defense and timely hitting as Jim Kaat would start next for Minnesota against Don Drysdale. Weather may bring showers in Minneapolis-St Paul tomorrow.

Depot Work Day Being Shortened at Sioux Army Depot

Sioux Army Depot will shift to 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. hours starting Sunday Oct 24 with a 11 to 11:30 a.m. lunch. The change reduces lunch from one hour to 30 minutes and aims to improve safety by giving drivers more daylight hours in winter.

Funeral services for Harry Louderback 79 of Kearney who died at Kearney State Hospital will be Friday Oct 15 at 2 PM at the Craig Mortuary. A fuller obituary will run in Friday’s paper.
