Dalton Youth Dies in Lake Boat Tragedy
Eighteen year old James DeLyle Bancroft of Dalton drowned Friday afternoon in a speedboat accident on a lake near McIntosh South Dakota. Rescuers found the body Saturday afternoon and it was flown to Sidney. Bancroft, the son of Mr and Mrs Darrel Bancroft, worked in South Dakota on a geophysical seismography crew for Ohio Oil Company. Witnesses said he was alone in the boat which appeared to leap and over. Dean Chandler of Sidney attempted a rescue but could not locate him. The body was returned to Sidney Sunday by plane. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at two oclock in the Presbyterian Church of Dalton with burial in Greenwood Cemetery under Craig Mortuary direction. He was born July 31 1983 in Dalton and attended Center School then Sidney High School. He was active in the Presbyterian church DeMolay and the Sidney Gun Club. He is survived by his parents three brothers Keith Stuart and Donnie his paternal grandmother Mrs Charlotte Bancroft of Sidney and maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs J C Frandsen of Dalton.

High Demand For Workers In Sidney Area
The Nebraska State Employment Service reports sustained labor demand in Sidney with 539 positions filled in September across wholesale retail building construction agriculture and government sectors. Employment prospects remain strong outside agriculture, which is expected to dip in thirty days. A total of 1,215 people visited the office, including many employers and inquirers. A heavy rain and soggy snow brought about 1.5 inches of moisture to Sidney and vicinity last Friday and Saturday, one of the earliest heavy snows on record. Four inches fell on Friday making a white blanket that aided winter wheat growth while storms caused tree damage and street light outages. Beets face soggy fields as harvest looms. highways were slick but passable.

Third Cheyenne County Korean War fatality, Robert Linton of Dalton, age 26, reported killed September 26. He arrived in Korea August 29 after training at Fort Riley. A Lincoln field party is surveying to reroute Highway 29 over Stage Hill south of Gering and straighten toward Kimball. The aim is easier grade, fewer hazards, and a scenic drive along the Wildcat range edge. A Kimball to Gering shortening survey is nearly done with eight miles left to Kimball before continuing straight to Kimball. Work on game park fencing waits for the survey finish.

Kennedy Tops Shooters in Joe Simodynes Memorial Trapshoot
Kennedy of Kimball won the third annual Joe Simodynes memorial trapshoot at Sidney Gun Club breaking 100 straight in the singles and winning a shoot-off with Marvin Cox of Holyoke to capture the handicap. Thirty-three shooters from Colorado Wyoming and Nebraska competed amid two days of bad weather. Kennedy led singles rivals Graver Rock and Bill Franklin while Cox and Kennedy deadlocked at 96 in the handicap before Kennedy shot 24 of 25 in the shoot-off. Dorn Big Springs Hull Roscoe and Fickel Marsland posted 95 in the doubles with Dorn finishing on top at 48 of 50.
