Alice Blair Wins Election To NPCAA Board

Alice Blair of Sidney was elected to represent Cheyenne County on the Nebraska Panhandle Community Action Agency board with JoAnn Goen as alternate. Georgia Miller was re elected to represent Devel County with Claudia Jean Dale as alternate. All are residents of Chappell and will serve three year terms starting December 13.

SWIS expands warehousing as fertilizer storage tops year

SWIS in Sidney uses five of 14 warehouses in the Sioux Industrial Park to store up to 85 000 tons of fertilizer and 50 000 bean bags for Chester B Brown Bean Co with rail loading ramped by a new three mile UP track. The operation, led by Ed Narjes and Jeff Bush, boosts regional employment while diversifying beyond fertilizer.

Columbus Day Closings Include City County Offices

Most city state and county offices as well as post offices will close Monday for Columbus Day. Sidney garbage routes shift. Monday runs Tuesday and Tuesday routes Wednesday. No city or rural mail deliveries Monday. collection-box mail picked up as usual. Last Sidney mail leaves at 4 pm. Cheyenne County officials head to Scottsbluff Tuesday for Panhandle County Officials meeting with agency representatives.

Highway work near Sidney advances to final stages

The Nebraska Department of Roads says the Highway 30 viaduct project east of Sidney is nearing completion and should open this afternoon or Tuesday. Traffic on Highway 385 north of Sidney could begin around November 1, with the full I 80 connection ready by mid November. The $34 million project began over a year ago. Century Fence Co. of Waukesha, Wisconsin holds a $45,250 contract for overhead sign supports at I 80 and on Highway 30 at the 385 junction.

Warm dry weekend forecast for Nebraska

The forecast calls for sunny skies and warmer temperatures statewide with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s on Friday and cooler 30s to 40s at night. Saturday brings continued mild weather with highs in the lower to mid 70s as a broad area of low pressure remains along the Rockies.

Sidney Volunteer Fire Department urges residents to join Operation EDITH with a 6 pm siren start for exit drill in the home. Fire Chief Jerry Lawson says families should plan and practice fire escapes and that red ball stickers on bedroom windows help firefighters locate children or disabled residents quickly.
