In the Sidney area, construction led labor demand with a 40 percent year over year rise. The Sidney employment office serving Banner Cheyenne Devel and Kimball Counties reported 248 calls for workers and 218 placements amid a strong building season and extended activity.
Disapproval surfaced at a Jaycee meeting over inviting Vladimar M. Janovek to speak at the Jaycee Fall Quarterly in Sidney this weekend. Jaycee leaders defended the invitation, noting Janovek would be treated with courtesy regardless of ideology.

Nebraska cities with over 5 000 residents receive a smaller share of state gas tax funds than their counties. Sidney accounts for about 56.7 percent of Cheyenne County’s population but only 8.9 percent of state money. Other cities like Omaha Grand Island Lincoln and North Platte show similar disparities between city population and tax allocations based on the 1950 census.
The last of 1 535 distress warrants for delinquent personal taxes have been turned over to the Cheyenne County Sheriff's office. Sheriff will mail warrants to delinquents. Warrants lien personal property to secure cash or levy and sale of assets.

Bids opened at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital for a nursing home wing exceeded the architect’s estimate and the project budget. Only Carl Christ Construction and Nienhaeser and Weber of Sidney submitted bids, both rejected. Plans will be revised to remove the second story to fit funds, with new bids to be sought within sixty days and funds held if possible.
Sidney Rotary Club welcomed District Governor James Adams of North Platte who spoke to the full membership after meeting with committee chairs. Adams, leader at the Nebraska University agricultural experiment station, shared plans for the coming Rotary year as students and visiting Rotarians joined the session.
Final rites for Oscar W. Erickson 81 former Sidney resident and building contractor were held in Denver on Oct. 1. He died Sept. 27 in a Denver hospital after months of illness. Survivors include his wife Lena of Denver three daughters and two sons.
County Treasurer M. M. Inhelder reports 3,059 Sidney personal tax receipts mailed for 1958 with an estimated $237,000 in revenue. About 6,059 countywide receipts will go out, expected to yield $696,000.
Cheyenne Countys sugar beet harvest moves into high gear with an estimated 45 530 ton crop and a 15 7 ton per acre average predicting over 100 cars from Great Western fields. Field work led by Leroy Hadden uses tare sampling and Scottsbluff testing while beets are processed at Scottsbluff after harvest.
