The weatherman predicts a pleasant October with near normal precipitation and temperatures. Western Nebraska is expected to enjoy the most enjoyable season of the year under the U. S. Weather Bureau outlook released today via AP Wirephoto.
Cheyenne County Historical Society seeks a one tenth mill levy to fund a local historical museum. County officials cite conflicting statutes on timing and ballot eligibility, asking the attorney general to rule if the issue can still appear on the November 6 ballot.
The ith annual convention of the Police Officers' Assn of Nebraska will meet in Sidney on Oct 22 and 23 with up to 100 in attendance. Notable speakers include FBI Omaha's Thomas J Gearty, Attorney General Clarence A Meyers, District Judge John H Kuns and others. program covers legislation, probation, statements, and law enforcement cooperation. The two day schedule features meetings, an annual banquet, and officer elections.
Sidney buyers will return to the Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion with a lease purchase by Robert Rauner and Dave Truss from Charles N. Deaver. Harrisburg report says United Telephone completed an underground administrative cable linking a missile site to the Kimball Banner County line. A cable plow laid a 36 to 42 inch trench and backfilled in one pass. Northwestern Bell will continue work from the county line under foreign exchange service. The line will connect to a missile control center near Kimball as the Air Force plans 200 missiles in the tri state area across Banner and Cheyenne Counties in Nebraska and Chugwater, Wyoming.
A compact forecast notes mainly cloudy skies with scattered light showers tonight and tomorrow. Overnight lows range from 40 to 50 degrees with daytime highs 60 to 70 degrees.
Marion O Lawhorn 56 was found dead about 8 30 am at Vogler No 1 drilling location eight and a half miles north and a half mile west of Potter likely from a heart attack. He lived with his wife at 1425 14th and worked nights loading drilling mud for Earl Martin Water Service. County officials including P J Heaton Jr sheriff W W Schulz and deputy Kermit Brumbaugh answered, with funeral arrangements by Gehrig and Son Funeral Home.
BIG SPRINGS The Deuel County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting and dinner at Big Springs Memorial Hall on Monday Oct 8 at 6 p.m. After the dinner and business meeting Congressional candidates Dave Martin and John Hoffman will speak at 8 p.m. The public is invited. The bureau will elect new officers and adopt resolutions to be sent to the state group next month.
Forty acres of stubble burned on the Arnold Braasch farm two miles north of Huntsman Thursday afternoon. The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded at 2:30 p.m. and returned at 3:30 p.m.
Fred A. Seaton told an overflow Sidney crowd that Nebraskans must choose November 6 between Lincoln and Washington in state government. He accused Governor Morrison of backing Kennedy Medicare, Freeman farm policy, and federal aid to education, urging a stronger Nebraska road plan and bigger Safety Patrol. He spoke after leaving a sick bed at a steak fry honoring his campaign and vowed to press tough issues through Election Day.
Carl W Christ Construction Co of Sidney was the low bidder Thursday on the Midwest Stramit Corp project. Seven bids were submitted for a Strawsteel building 50 by 220 feet at 25909 dollars. Ray Graff president said the building could be finished by November 15 and machinery already arrived will be installed rapidly. Stramit uses grain straw, wheat straw in this area, with stock sales continuing to fund expansion aiming for two hundred thousand dollars.
Thursday night's GOP gathering drew a strong crowd as local candidates were introduced. Congressman Dave Martin was absent in Washington missing the event. Gerald Matzke introduced Mr Sea ton, correcting an erroneous Kennedy administration remark. The audience applauded the recovery and praised Republican women for their work.
Jacob Frerichs 84 former Weyerts resident died Friday morning in Franklin Nebraska where he and his wife have lived for several years since leaving Weyerts He was the last survivor of a large family including John Frerichs of Sidney Funeral services set for 2 p m Monday at the Macon Lutheran Church in Franklin He is survived by his wife three daughters seven sons including Herman Frerichs of Gurley Attending the funeral are Mrs John Frerichs Mr and Mrs Herman Frerichs and families and Mr and Mrs Jim Taylor and children.
