The City of Alliance will launch a city contractor pickup for edible garbage and city crews will handle rubbish removal at no cost to residents. Ash disposal remains the property owner’s responsibility. City Manager Clarence Hoper will print the ordinance and a perforated kitchen card for every home and business, with copies distributed soon.
Three persons were injured in a two car collision Saturday afternoon on Highway No 30 at the Sioux Depot turn off at Brownson. The injured include Mrs Carl Harris of Richmond California thrown against a windshield and treated at Sioux Ordnance Depot hospital then Taylor Hospital in Sidney. Ira Shaeffer of Sioux Villa chest injuries bruises and shock taken to Roche Hospital. Mrs Leroy Emerson Shaeffer's daughter badly bruised and shaken. Witnesses said Shaeffer turned across the highway causing the crash. Harris swerved but could not avoid impact. Patrolmen Knudtsen and Nichols investigated. Sheriff Schulz also assisted. The crash recalls a fatal Zink crash at the depot turn off last year.
State highway patrolmen enforced traffic laws over several days. In county court Baker Kellman of San Francisco was fined $20 and costs for speeding and passing on a curve. Walden Badmer of Hesston Kansas paid $10 and costs for speeding. Charles Dickinson of Lodgepole faced $1 and costs for no operator license. William Krueger of Sidney pleaded guilty to speeding and improper display of license plates and received $20 and costs. the license plate charge was dismissed.
Rep A L Miller submits fifteen youths for appointments to West Point and Annapolis in the fourth district. Annapolis principal nominations include Albert W Johnson Bridgeport and William W Orcutt Kimball. First alternates James B Vogler Kimball and Warren Wickhorst Potter. West Point second alternate Joe J Rhiley Oshkosh.
Training for the Christmas buffet meal demonstration will be given to county home extension club leaders in early October. The first meeting is Wednesday October 2 at the city auditorium, followed by Tuesday October 8 and Thursday October 10 at Dalton High School. Each session starts at 10 a.m. Leaders should plan to eat together at noon.
The State Game Commission prints 8 by 11 inch posters urging hunters to seek permission before entering fields to hunt. Posters, to be sent free to farmers ranchers and sportsmen groups, should be placed on fences and mailboxes of landowners willing to permit hunting with prior consent. Write to the Game Forestation and Parks Commission with the number of posters desired.
The Telegraph resumes subscriptions from all localities after improving newsprint supply. Rates are 3.00 per year inside the fifty mile zone and 3.50 outside. Previous outside subscriptions were refused to conserve paper, now possible for advertisers and readers across the Sidney trade area.
Grieve defending champion and Doran, a former champ, win semis to meet next Sunday in a 36 hole final. Grieve defeated Babcock 4 up after a 33 on the front nine while Doran beat Jorgenson 6 and 5. Weather and course could favor par as the final rounds open.
The Republican caravan arrives in Sidney for a two hour visit ending with a 12 30 luncheon at Hazel's Cafe. County committee workers and leading Republicans officials and the press are invited. Dr Leo J Thomas county chairman leads arrangements as the GOP canvasses for state and national office seekers. Democrats previously visited Sidney a week earlier.

Potato harvesting in western Nebraska was set to begin with two thousand workers needed in Scotts Bluffs Kimball Banner Cheyenne and Morrill counties to harvest 4500 acres. Weather permitting the official kick off was planned and many farmers arrange sleeping and dining quarters. Workers were cautioned to register with local county agents before traveling to the panhandle. Also twenty nine western Nebraska banks were approved to handle government potato loans including banks in Sidney Potter Potter county Lodgepole Kimball and Bridgeport.
The Sidney Greater Artists Series opens with Josephine Antoine a Metropolitan Opera soprano at the city auditorium on Thursday Oct 17. Tickets are selling through several locals and Telegraph office. Season passes cost 6.60 for adults and 3.60 for juniors, including tax.
Manuel Perez a beet worker from Crook Colorado is jailed on a $1000 bond for allegedly stealing a blanket from a car owned by Pete Sittner valued at 22. He pleaded not guilty at a preliminary hearing before County Judge Rebbert A Barlow and was bound over to the district court. Authorities probe possible connections to other thefts and tires found in his possession. Perez waived extradition and was brought to Sidney after arrest in Logan county. Sheriff W W Schulz says more information may follow.
Civil Service exam announcements open for Sioux Ordnance Depot in Sidney for tractor and truck drivers forklift operators and labor foremen. Jobs pay 0.83 to 1.55 per hour with 18 to 62 age limits, veterans and war service indefeasibly excluded. Applications due by Oct 15 from users in Minnesota Nebraska Iowa or the Dakotas.
Police warn Sioux Villa residents about vandalism by youths believed to be 14 or 15. Nails under car tires caused punctures, while some windows were broken. Chief Harvey Vizina says suspects are under surveillance and will be questioned if acts persist.
Leonard B. Cary aged 98, an early Telegraph publisher, Sidney schoolteacher, and county official, died recently in Reedley California where he had lived. He formerly published in Bridgeport, taught in Sidney, served as county clerk in 1885, and later was a California state assemblyman. Born June 26, 1848 in Ohio, he studied at Simpson College and Iowa schools, and worked as editor before moving west.
St Pats, under new coach Tommy Dineen, rallied in the third quarter to beat Potter 27-21. Leonard Egging sparked the surge with a 43 yard TD, and Lloyd Kallhoff plus the passing of Pat Heaton Henry Heeg and Gene Durbin added scoring, while Potter’s Schwartz and Fliegenschuh shone early.

Dalton High School announced a homecoming program for Friday night during the Dalton St. Patrick’s football game. All grads are urged to attend with a special alumni section to be reserved by school officials. The game starts at eight o’clock.
Sidney Nebraska city council approves a resolution for a bond election on November 5 to fund land for a municipal airport. A 480 acre site valued at about 33000 dollars will be acquired with bonds due in twenty years, with interest up to 13.75 percent and a tax levy to cover repayment. Civil Aeronautics Authority has approved the site. tenants on the land may waive damages under a lease arrangement.
Last week the Kearney District Women’s Society of Christian Service held its second annual seminar at Sidney with meetings also in North Platte and Kearney. Thirty societies attended with speakers Rev. C. T. Hawes and Mrs. O. W. Low. District officers including Mrs. E. J. Louisenheiser and Mrs. Vere Olsson were present. Superintendent Mrs. J. Lobart presided.
Four Cheyenne County Rural Youth members left Sunday to attend the National Rural Youth camp at Jackson Mills West Virginia. Dalton-Gurley club is represented by Bob Linton and Kenneth Anderson while Sid ney-Potter by Earl Gell and Wendell Mathewson. State rural youth leader T H Alexander notes several cars from across Nebraska will join. Nebraska’s delegation will be larger than last year with national officers elections and educational recreational features on the program and speakers of nationwide reputation available.
