Discriminating Burglars Steal From Sidney Mercantile

A burglars raid hit the Sidney Mercantile Store last Saturday night through a rear window of the men’s clothing department. Intruders left tags indicating size, took only high quality garments with apparent taste, and used a night light during the operation. The burglary mirrors a prior theft of a woman’s outfit at Mrs. Banta’s home, with careful handling and a strong entry via an iron shutter and lever.

J. R. Reynolds of Laura, son-in-law of Dick Williams, brings to town this week the finest sugar corn. The ears measure ten to fifteen inches, with kernels as large as field corn. The sweet tender ears demonstrate Cheyenne County soil with proper seed and care.

True Community Spirit Shown At District 77 School

Last Friday at District 77 school north of town Miss Leah Smith led a display of student work and garden produce. The new school cost 1050 dollars and includes a large room, vestibule, cloak room, and basement with furnace. The Farmers Union held an evening meeting amid the exhibits.

Odd Fellow Meeting Hosts Hoagland Visit and Social

Monday evening at Odd Fellow Hall W. W. Hoagland of North Platte warden of the Grand Lodge was a welcome visitor. After the business meeting the Rebecca sisters joined for luncheon and social time. Mrs Hoagland inspected the local degree and gave a school of instruction. Evening speeches by Mr and Mrs Hoagland and other members provided timely remarks.

Auto Light Violation Leads to Small Fine in City Court

Sunday evening a complaint was made against an auto traveling with out light. City Judge Chambers imposed a fine of $1.00 and costs, promptly paid. Village authorities warn that the next offense will incur a larger fine as autoists daily show less care in speed lights and staying on the correct side of the road, risking a tragic lesson from rule violations.

Midnight Fire Destroys Banta Home

A Saturday night blaze at the south town Banta residence drew fire crews and neighbors. Mrs. Fletcher Mann alerted occupants, allowing most to escape. The upper floor was a fiery furnace, furniture on the lower floor saved, and many valuables destroyed. Mrs. Banta expresses thanks to neighbors and firefighters amid a total loss and partial insurance.

County seat caller Henry Ronnecker shines in hard season

Henry Ronnecker of Lodgepole served as a county seat caller last Saturday. Despite being in the hair strip and facing adverse cropping conditions, he performed well with his wheat and other grain crops, both large and small.
