Sidney stores begin holiday decorating with 21 days until Christmas. Merchants display Christmas merchandise, plan early openings, and offer lay away to ease purchases. Early optimism returns as winter moisture hopes rise and farm payments boost wallets.
The Fox theatre presents a complete vaudeville program featuring 23 people and an 11 piece recording orchestra as part of the International Revue alongside the feature picture Jealousy with Nancy Carroll. Matinee 10 and 30 cents, evening 10 and 40 cents, with all seats the same price.
The Telegraph News misstated the Rotary club meeting details last week. It claimed a new scout troop appeared and that the Rotary sponsor supported the troop, but troop 90 members were present and the club did not sponsor them. The paper acknowledged the errors.
The 1934 football team received a loving cup at the Fox theatre to honor its successful season. Coach Leo Black and co captains Christofferson and Stewart spoke briefly. Harold Ones, Fox manager, presented the award.

Nebraska state officials report success in stopping illegal gas imports. After inspecting over 400 tank trucks along state borders, none were found incorrectly billed and all were bonded carriers delivering tax paid gas. Director Dwight Felton notes a shift from two years ago when many trucks entered the state evading taxes.
Corn hog compliance crews begin field checks Monday December 3 to verify farm contracts before final 1934 payments. Supervisors from August and September will return to speed field work, aiming to complete visits while roads and weather allow, saving time and expense for the association members.
An 18 year old Ogallala boy admitted Wednesday his kidnapping tale was a hoax. Max Shelborne first claimed an armed stranger forced him to Lincoln, then said he wanted to visit a friend and crafted the story as an excuse.
Early Wednesday morning the official government reports record the season's coldest temperature at five degrees above zero, reached shortly after midnight. By daylight clouds reduced the wind chill and the day rose above freezing.
Private detective Jim Shorty Kulis testified in the first degree murder trial of Fred Frahm at Oshkosh saying he believes Frahm killed his brother John and buried the body east of Oshkosh. Kulis arrived by air after his car wreck near Jamestown South Carolina and appeared lame requiring medical help. he aided Frahm’s defense by recounting his visit to the grave site with Frahm in 1928 and the police search later locating the remains.
The Sidney chamber of commerce plans a December 10 Christmas celebration with Santa Claus, his reindeer, an Eskimo with dog team, and three wise men with a camel. The Sons of the Three Wise Men announce they will attend, wearing ancient Magi costumes to follow the star to Bethlehem, promising a day of thrills for children and adults, with details continued on page 3.
Residents of this community gathered for the annual union Thanksgiving services at the Christian church Wednesday evening. Rev. F. Charling Mills of the Methodist church delivered a stirring sermon, inspiring worshipers to give thanks for a year of improvement amid widespread adversity.

The Nebraska general election returned 328,074 votes for repeal, the strongest support among constitutional amendments and any candidate. It carried by 109,967. Governor Cochran won by 17,388 over Griswold. Burke led for U S senator with 305,958 to Simmons 237,126, a 68,832 margin. Total votes were 578,764. Many voters skipped governor, senator, or repeal, while all amendments posted large margins. Continued on page 3, column 2.
A black leather medical bag containing a stethoscope and flashlight was found along a road near Greeley and turned over to authorities. Mrs. J B Hinek of Hanna Wyoming reported the find to the paper, aiding Cheyenne county officials in recovering the stolen item linked to Dr. Black Stone of Gurley.
A permanent county rehabilitation program will be formed at a Saturday meeting in the district court room at 7 30. Lillian EB Carroll, director of relief, announces. D P Moulton, a state official, will outline the plan and its possibilities. The event is a major step in the county recovery effort.

A light snow in Cheyenne county ended a long dry spell, with 0.22 inches moisture in Sidney and drifting mostly near general area, roads open, mail delivered, frigid footing.
Parents of students in instrumental music are invited to a junior high auditorium gathering Monday at 7 30 PM to form a permanent music parents association. A nominating committee will present officer candidates and read a proposed constitution. The initial instrumental students will give a brief demonstration.
Union Pacific reports one man injured and twelve freight cars derailed near Wamsutter Wyoming. Daniel A. Lauver aged 38 was scalded by escaping steam and taken to Rawlins hospital. An extra westbound freight stopped by the coal chute, then another westbound train struck from the east delaying traffic for hours. Initial Sidney rumors spoke of a passenger derailment with fifteen coaches in the ditch.
Governor Bryan appealed to Nebraskans patriotism urging stored corn be offered for sale within Nebraska. He said some sellers move corn out of state while local livestock feeders struggle to secure enough feed.
With football season over, Sidney high school athletes start basketball drills Monday. The Maroons will defend last season’s laurels from the 1933-34 campaign when Sidney cagers won the Big Ten title and reached the regional tourney before losing a thrilling game at Lincoln.
The federal reserve board reports a rebound in business activity in October and November as textile mills resume work and steel and construction sectors pick up. The index climbs to 73 percent of the 1923-25 average from 71 percent in September, marking the first increase since May's 86 percent after April's 85 percent.
