Colonels Now take off on Johnny Carson spoof at Sidney HS

Local Nebraskan group the Fort Sidney Coloniels perform The Colonels Now a Carson imitator sketch at Sidney High School Auditorium. Curtain 8 pm with admission 1 for adults and 50 cents for students. Edwards and Elwell impersonate Carson and McMahon joined by guests and a 30 voice chorus.

Four Rotary travelogues still to come at Sidney High

The Sidney Roary Club offers four travel and adventure programs with Mexico this Sunday at 2 pm in the Sidney High School auditorium. One-Car Mishap in Sidney Involves Hall and Dog

Sidney Police investigated a Thursday incident when Steffen E Hall left his car in gear while exiting to retrieve his dog. The vehicle rolled forward striking a tree near the 19th Avenue Linden intersection, causing about 75 dollars in damage. Texas leads in farms and farmland acreage with North Carolina second in farms and Montana second in farmland area.

Longtime Sidney Resident Ed Breternitz Dies at 63

Mrs. Ed Breternitz, 63, a Sidney resident for about 45 years, died at home Thursday of a heart attack. Funeral 10 a.m. Saturday at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Ganzel officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Survived by widower Edwin, daughter Norma Jean, and sister Laura Rudd. Caroline E. Rudd was born in Ong Nebraska in 1907 and married Edwin H. Breternitz in 1925, later operating a local bakery. She was a Methodist Church member.

Third Depot Well Test Is Duster

A third attempt to establish oil production on the former Sioux Army Depot property has failed as William McElwain plugs his No 1 Federal well. Marathon Oil Co previously drilled two successful wells nearby and is expected to drill more. Four wildcat locations in Kimball and Morrill counties received permits for Bander and Couch Inc Toltek Drilling Co to drill.

Youths Are Sentenced In Egg Incident

County Judge Sydney Finch sentenced three youths after an egg throwing vandalism case. Perry G. Cram Jr and Robert Lee Jobman each pay 50 dollars fines plus 7.50 costs, eight days in jail, restitution, and one year probation. Jerry Hudson receives 25 dollars fine plus 10.90 costs, shared restitution, six months probation. Damages were described as sizeable.

Mishaps Involve Four Deer Across Nebraska Highways

Nebraska State Patrol investigated two deer collision incidents at the start of the holiday weekend. At 4 50 p m Tuesday on Highway 30 east of Sidney a 1964 Ford driven by Eugene F Kisters struck a deer, killing the animal and causing about 350 dollars in front end damage. At 5 40 p m Thursday on Highway 30 west of Sunol a 1968 Buick driven by Ronald E Uzel hit deer crossing the road, causing 75 dollars damage with no injuries.

Channel 4 Change On Cable Set In Sidney

Sidney viewers will switch to Channel 12 to receive Channel 4 KOA Denver and will access KDUH TV Hay Springs on Channel 11. KDUH, a satellite of Rapid City, is fed through KOA and uses a new 2000 foot tower in Box Butte County to beam into Sidney. The move aims to add KDUH as a local originating station.

Thanksgiving Day brought a brisk air with a springlike previous day. The FAA flight service station logged a low of 39 and high of 73 on Wednesday. Fog the next morning followed by a damp chill and a 23/45 day. By noon today the low stood at 23 and the high reached 30.
