Lodgepole Church Bazaar Set For December 2

Lodgepole Methodist Church announces its annual Christmas dinner and bazaar to be held Wednesday evening December 2 at the Legion Hall. At a recent meeting, event chairmen were named and the next regular gathering is scheduled for December 10 with several hostesses and lesson presenter noted.

Big Springs Mayor Merrill Mercer Dies at 51

Merrill Mullen Mercer, 51, mayor of Big Springs, died of a heart attack at home. A 41-year resident, born August 14, 1913, in Grand Island, he belonged to the Methodist Church and the Llks Lodge. Survived by wife Reatha, four sons Dave Monte Julesburg Cole Marvin Danny, a brother Theron, and other relatives. Funeral Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church, Rev. Hervey Porter officiating. burial at Big Springs. Funeral Home of Julesburg in charge.

Box Butte Civil Defense head to be paid $100 monthly

Clyde Lawson Hemingford will receive $100 a month plus 8 cents a mile for driving as Box Butte County Civil Defense director. The county board approved the resolution with funds split between county and state sources. Lawson has completed an approved countywide Civil Defense plan in under a year, having previously directed Hemingford’s plan. He often travels to Alliance, where the Civil Defense office is housed in The Times Herald building basement.

Air Conditioning At Bluffs Hospital

SCOTTSBLUFF The St. Mary Hospital Advisory Board authorized a contract with Platte Valley Plumbing & Heating Co. of Scottsbluff for 339620 to renovate the heating system add air conditioning and other improvements. Sub-contractors will be Wiedeman Bros. Inc. and Barney's Electric both of Scottsbluff. Garnie Gaghan, fund drive chairman, said county committees must raise another 22000 before year’s start.

Tom Bowen aged 29 was named administrator of Chadron hospital by the hospital board chairman Dr. Richard David Bowen holds a bachelor of science from Kansas State University and a masters in hospital administration from Iowa University He also completed a course in hospital accounting at Indiana University

Overlooked Deed Creates Title Cloud in Sidney Addition

A deed from the State of Nebraska to Cheyenne County for land in Lodgepole Creek Addition west Sidney has created a title cloud. The issue centers on a road strip not shown on deeds when the land was state school lands, later subdivided and sold to Charles N. Deaver. City officials and the Board of County Commissioners await action as the problem is studied.

Panhandle forecast calls for partly cloudy skies tonight and Saturday. Low temperatures 10 to 20 degrees, highs in the 30s to near 40. Five day outlook shows temperatures 4 to 8 degrees below normal through Wednesday with frequent changes and occasional light snow or snow flurries.

Slim Thief Sought After Machine Gun Theft in Chappell

Chappell police hunt a slim thief wearing size eight shoes after a machine gun vanished from the station display. The English made 9 mm weapon with iron stock, a clip, and 25 rounds was stolen by a person who slipped through an access hole. Police warn the weapon’s danger and potential to surface in unsecured areas.

Dignitaries Will Headline St. Pat Dedication Tuesday

A half million dollar St. Patrick’s High School in Sidney will be formally dedicated next Tuesday. Governor Morrison and Bishop Paschang will lead the ceremonies with other dignitaries and alumni in attendance. A Solemn Pontifical High Mass will close the day, followed by tours and a 7:30 pm dedication in the auditorium lobby.

Cooks and counsellors sought for Sidney training program

Supt. Russell J Pedersen announced the Sidney Occupational Training Program will hire five cooks in the food service department and two counsellors. He plans to interview candidates in Lincoln and is seeking a head cook. Nine staff have been hired with seven openings remaining. new teachers include Kenneth Seifker Keith Robison and Ed Sumner from Scotts Bluff and Sidney respectively.

Devany Talk Tickets On Sale For Bosses Night

In-Service Program Set for Sidney Public Schools

The In-Service Day for Sidney Public Schools faculty runs all Monday with the theme Vocational Education. Activities begin 8:30 a.m. in the high school cafeteria with remarks by Supt. Russell J. Pedersen. Guest speakers include John Elias Eldon Heskett and Janet Wilson. A 9:45 coffee break follows, then a 10:15 panel discussion. Afternoon K-12 and secondary curriculum meetings begin 1:00 and 1:45 p.m. Coffee breaks occur at 2:45 p.m. with speakers available to answer questions.
