Downtown Sidney will switch on Christmas lights Friday between five and 5 36 PM marking the season opening. City Advised to Go Slow on Bonds for Sidney

Pioneer Sidney resident George Ahrens dead at 77
Sidney mourns as George Ahrens 77 dies at Scottsbluff Hospital after a three week stay. Funeral services were held at Gehrig and Son with Rev. R L Townsend officiating and burial in Greenwood cemetery. A lifelong county resident since 1885, he was born in Lost Nation Iowa and moved to Lodgepole then Sidney with his parents. Survivors include his brother Don in Detroit and sisters in law including Mrs Ida Ahrens of Sidney plus four nieces and four nephews.

Busekist to Return to NSS Duties After Illness
After three months of illness and hospitalization Sgt. Mel Busekist will resume duties with the Nebraska Safety Patrol tomorrow morning. He underwent surgery in September and had prior hospitalization for a stomach ailment. Traffic on Nebraska highways fell 6 percent last month from 1956 and 13 percent from the prior month, though first ten months show a slight year over year gain. Calculations come from state traffic counters.

Dorans Offer Up To 75000 For Aged Home At Hospital
The Doran Foundation offers up to 75000 to build a home for the aged for Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Guy V Doran will fund from the foundation and will match other gifts up to 75000. No time limit, work hoped to start next year. New Oil Drilling Locations Announced In Cheyenne County
Two new drilling sites were revealed in Cheyenne County. One, Treinen No. 1-A near the West Sidney Gas Field, will be drilled for R. F. Svoboda of Lincoln. The other, Murfin Oil Co.'s No. 1 Holt, SW SW 10-16-51, has already been plugged. Ohio Oil Co. reports Laux No. 1 in Garden County abandoned after reaching 3,385 feet. Sidney district drilling ends for 1957.
