WNTC students remodel housing units on campus

A Western Nebraska Technical College building construction class of 12 students under instructor Jean Phillips is interior remodeling 74 student housing units on campus. The project, a brainchild of WNTC President Dr Charles Michael, updates 1940s era units originally built for Sioux Army Depot workers. Work includes tile, drywall, carpet, door blocks, shelves, and closet doors across three to five apartments per building.

Sheriff Cox says investigators chase a couple and a small child tied to Frederick Skiba's death near Kimball on Nov 12. Alliance May Lose Cattle Capital Title as Auction Co Closes

The Alliance Livestock Auction Co will hold its final sale on December 3 after Burlington Northern Railroad cancels the lease and plans a repair station on the site. Dean Simpson said relocation would cost about 750000, with the barn in operation 38 years and handling tens of thousands of cattle annually including notable Hereford and Angus sales.

Santa to ride smoother sleigh in Sidney events

Santa Claus returns for sleigh rides at the courthouse square in Sidney beginning this Sunday with sessions from 1 to 5 pm on Sundays and 10 am to 12 pm and 1 to 3 pm on Saturdays. Additional rides are planned on December 4 11 and 18. Local stores extend hours on select Sundays and many Thursdays through December.

Winter weather returns to Nebraska with heavy snow warnings

The National Weather Service issued heavy snow warnings for the Panhandle and extreme southwest Nebraska through Friday night as two low pressure systems in Northwest Kansas and Oklahoma bring snow. Temperatures early Friday ranged from the mid 20s in Chadron to 40 in Omaha with northerly winds 10 to 30 mph. 4 inches possible in western Nebraska, 1 to 2 inches in central and southeast sections, with a drop to 5 to 15 above by Saturday morning.

First in eight Nebraska cow roundups at Kimball

The Kimball session on Monday November 29 starts at 10 am at the Holiday Restaurant, the sole Panhandle stop in a fall series to update cattlemen on problems and new information. Topics include internal parasites Beef Research Act nitrate feeds marketing grass and crossbreeding.
