State Honor To Lodgepole Light and Water Commissioner
George Emanuelson, Lodgepole light and water commissioner for 28 years, received a Distinguished Service Award from the Nebraska Division of the American Water Works Association in Grand Island. A Lodgepole native, he spent seven years with Union Pacific before joining the village in 193? as an operator. The plant shifted to Wheatbelt Public Power District power in 1952, remains on standby, and faced storms and droughts, including the 1964 dry summer and the 1965 wet season, with a new well solving water issues. Emanuelson expresses deep ties to Lodgepole and dedication to his work.

Mil ford Trade School Enrollment Surges to New Highs
State Education Commissioner Cecil Stanley said Milford Vocational Technical School will exceed 700 enrollees in January and rise beyond 800 by July, with a 693 record last fall. A switch to the quarter system and a building program drive the growth, aided by a 380 thousand dollar legislature appropriation for expansions. The Milford campus is Nebraska’s only state run trade school, though a Sidney facility is planned with classes starting next year. Enrollment is expected to top 1100 within six years as demand grows.

Telephone service from Sidney to Lodgepole was blotted out early this morning and had not been repaired by 1:30 p.m. The Lodgepole line reported the blackout originated in Lodgepole. Lodgepole Telephone Co manager Darrell Ammerman sought the cause. Only Sidney to Lodgepole connections were affected.

State Pioneer Rufus H Gummere Dies at 87
Rufus H Gummere 87 died in Memorial Hospital Sidney on Sunday. Born March 16 1878 in Marble Rock Iowa he moved to Nebraska in 1885 with his parents. He farmed near Sutherland before aiding at Sioux Army Depot Sidney where he retired in 1948. He married Nellie W Weeks on June 29 1929. Funeral services were held in Ogallala this afternoon.

Joseph S Bright Dies In Accident Near Limon Colorado
Joseph S Bright, 71, a former Sidney resident, died after his car was sideswiped by a truck near Limon, Colorado. He had operated the Sidney Motor Lodge and worked as a district mechanic for the Nebraska Highway Department and at Sioux Army Depot. Born July 21, 1894 in Mississippi, he and his wife had been traveling from Loveland to Malvern when the accident occurred.

Calf Cow Sale Scheduled At Sidney Pavilion Saturday
A special calf and cow sale at The Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion is set for Saturday with expected turnout of 1,000 to 1,500 animals. The lineup includes 300 whiteface stock cows at least 500 calves and two registered Angus bulls. Last week the pavilion sold 710 head and a Friday Charolais sale drew a good crowd with strong bids.
