Wheat loan activity steady after rate hike in Cheyenne County

In Sidney, ASCS reports 60 new wheat loans and 23 of 35 existing loans updated after the $150 to $2.25 nationwide rate increase. About 350000 bushels were loaned, with 62 loans for farm stored wheat and 33 for warehouse storage, totaling roughly $700000.

Murder hits I 80 near Sidney as Skiba is killed

Frederick Joseph Skiba 46 from Rancho Cordova Calif was found shot to death in a borrow pit along I 80 west of Sidney. Robbery suspected. He was last seen alive in Omaha area heading to Reno. Autopsy confirmed multiple gunshot wounds. His wife and brother identified the body. Shipments planned to California for services. State Patrol and Cheyenne County Sheriff's Department lead the investigation.

Computer built terraces debut in Devel County near Chappell

Thanksgiving break closes Sidney schools early

No school will be held across the region Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Sidney Public Schools and Sidney St. Patrick's will dismiss at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 24. A teacher in-service day on Monday, Nov 30, causes a return to class for St. Pat's on Monday. Public Schools resume Nov 30.

Sidney City Council to review trucks and school requests

The Sidney City Council meets tonight to consider bids for two city trucks a 24 000 GVW dump truck and a sewer cleaning vehicle and to discuss three school board requests including a four way stop sign a traffic light at Toledo and 13th Avenue and extending 12th Avenue toward the bridge. The council will study the items and vote later.

It Might Snow By The Associated Press

Nebraska faced a cold high pressure ridge stretching from the North Pole into eastern New Mexico. Forecasts expected the ridge to drift east through Monday with a moist low pressure trough entering western Nebraska by Monday night and central Nebraska by Tuesday morning. A small chance of snow flurries remained in extreme west areas late Monday night into Tuesday morning, with precipitation possible elsewhere on Tuesday.

Lawyers back Judge Heaton in Cheyenne County

Cheyenne County Lawyers Association members endorsed County Judge P. J. Heaton Sr, stating no misconduct found and pledging support. The group met November 18 to discuss a petition drive to empanel a grand jury to probe local officials, and offered to testify if a grand jury is formed.
