Rae Jones a retail implement dealer was elected president of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce at Thursday's quarterly meeting. New officers include Milton Handsel first vice president Dr C H Babbitt second vice president J R Miller Stanley Preble and Rudy Munderloh directors. Four are retailers and Miller manages the Northwestern Bell Telephone exchange in Sidney while Babbitt is a physician and surgeon. The group plans a 1950 membership drive and discussed policies and new activities with a large turnout.

About 500 leaders and members of the Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation will meet in Lincoln November 27 to 30 for the annual convention. State president Charles Marshall says the larger membership adds significance with resolutions guiding the 1950 Nebraska organization. Speakers include Roger Fleming and Norris Anderson. a resolutions committee will select grass roots proposals on road, tax, school, and state and national legislation.

A joint VFW auxiliary banquet and a Commander’s Ball close the day. Sunday moves to Scottsbluff for a full program and Monaco returns to Omaha for a noon luncheon.

More than 30 Nebraska county medical societies sent representatives to a one day Omaha conference on November 17 to train doctors in promoting voluntary insurance plans. The Nebraska Blue Shield Plan, organized by the medical profession in 1944, announced individual contracts will be offered in November December and January as a trial run. J Offerman, president of Blue Shield, emphasized doctors will extend benefits rapidly as feasible. Executive Director J H Pfeiffer noted growth from 5 579 members in 1945 to about 103 000 in 1949 with nearly $1 300 000 in benefits paid. The session opened with Dr J D McCarthy urging total medical support and feature speaker John W Castellucci of Chicago.

Funeral services for Edward Carl Kragel aged 46 were held Monday at St. Paul s Lutheran Church. He died Thursday in a Sidney hospital after a five month illness. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Gehrig Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include eight siblings, with several listed from Wheatland, Sidney, Dension, Dalton and Englewood.

$2 Per Acre Bid On Box Butte Oil Land
A bid of $2 an acre on a section of school land in Box Butte county for oil drilling rights was made Friday to the board of educational lands and funds by Max L. Krueger, Los Angeles. He also bid $1.25 an acre for another section in the same county. Clark Crawford, Bismarck, N.C., bid 25 cents an acre on nine sections and 560 acres in the same county. He was also high bidder at 25 cents an acre on two sections of land in Sheridan county. The Texas Oil company has taken assignment on 3,814 acres of land in Scotts Bluff county, records in the register of deeds office reveal.
