Second Annual Nebraska Potato Improvement Convention Headed
Farm Bureau News reports the Second Annual Convention of the Nebraska State Potato Improvement Association will be held in Scottsbluff, December 4 6. Cheyenne County potato growers are urged to attend with prominent farmers present to discuss the industry. Exhibits should be selected and sent to the county agent, five potatoes for a single exhibit or fifteen for a county display. Guidelines emphasize medium size, smoothness, disease free tubers, and uniform variety. Citizens are encouraged to plant sorghum next year as shortages loom for sugar and syrups. Coyotes threaten calves and hogs, but trapping can reduce losses. Roy Runien near Sidney reports eight coyotes captured this fall. A potato four and starch factory at Rushville is under construction, the second such mill in the U.S., which will provide a market for cull potatoes.
