County Chairman Fine and precinct chairmen push to exceed the $23,800 county target as subscriptions reach $17,000. Despite postwar indifference, the public is awakening to ongoing needs of seven organizations. Pledges continue to grow to support continuous fund work.
Fire whistles sounded on two windy days triggering alarms at the American Cafe and Oberfelder area buildings. Employees contained the first stove and the second blaze affected the Oberfelder clothing store roof and Sam Fine's awning. Fire officials suspect the municipal service plant as the ignition source. Damage centered on shattered plate glass windows with limited structural loss.
A letter to the City Health Board from Dr Munter advises contacting Surgeon General Rupert Blue in Washington to report institutions in the state where influenza has not yet appeared and to seek investigation into the prophylactic value of influenza vaccines. Nebraska State Department of Health.
Sidney Municipal Service JB Poquette manager announces electricity will be off Sunday November 28 from oclock in the morning until late in the afternoon due to receiving new equipment at the power house.
Governor Keith Neville proclaims Thursday, November 28, as a day of public thanksgiving. He urges all Nebraskans to observe the holiday with reverence, reflecting on moral and material welfare and considering how to begin the new year, with the Great Seal affixed and the proclamation dated November 20, 191s.
An armored car drawn by the Union Pacific ran along tracks east of the Pacific house on Sunday and Monday. It drew many visitors as it demonstrated self powered operation. The steel armor was thick, with gun ports and crew sheltered as if at home in the USA. It was built to run on railway tracks not dirt and faced delays awaiting clearance for track clearance.

Cheyenne County Nebraska meetings of November 6 and November 13 1918 record adjournment and votes. Board widens Gurley voting precinct, corrects clerical tax assessments, and amends Road 301A to improve routes to Votter. Petitions from Bunker Hill residents supported. minutes reference corrections and clerical errors.
City Council met in regular session on November 16 with Mayor Kod Uptegrove and eight councilmen present. Resolutions covered transfer of control of the Catholic cemetery to St Patrick’s Church, drafting of an ordinance, and appointment of Warren as City Attorney. A contract for a six inch pipeline along the W G McAdoo right of way with the Union Pacific Railroad was approved. Dr Mantor resigned as City Physician. Dr J C Swatzlander appointed in his place. Health measures and closing orders due to epidemic were continued. Council adjourned after other matters ended.
F Baker and H F Bock of Sterling Colorado have bought the American Cafe. Baker, an experienced restaurateur, plans to run a popular corner establishment. With the draft ended, they foresee better staffing and a prosperous business under the new proprietors.
Bayard residents report the death of Mrs. Jim Burns from influenza and note her son Haldane is dying. Mrs. Jesse Osborn traveled from Scotts Bluff to deliver two Kelly children to their Omaha grandparents. Kellys’ nurse mother returned to duty amid local flu shortages. Osborn visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Porta, and other relatives before departing.
J C McNish president of the American Bank spent Sunday and Monday in the city to discuss matters concerning his institution.
J W Rogers of Lodgepole was trans acting business at the county seat on Tuesday.

Mrs McWinley Bryan returns from Manhattan to visit ill sister Mrs David Jones. Charles Thierman family returns from Omaquhit after Elsie’s appendicitis tap operation. Thierman father meets them and drives them to the ranch.
Miss Anrott Radclif stayed in North Platte late last week to assist her friend Miss Edith Patterson and to apply for passports via Clerk Prosser at the Federal Court.
Charles Mann came home Saturday evening from Texas where he had gone the week previous as a volunteer in the training camp. Charlie was demobilized sooner than expected, but all concerned cheerfully accept the improved conditions.
Mr and Mrs W F Brown of Lincoln arrive last Saturday to aid their son Clyde Brown who has been very sick with the flu. The sick man is improving at this time.
Cunningham and wife shopped in Sidney on Monday while returning from their Gurley ranch. Their son Warren, a Sidney school graduate now employed at a Gurley bank, is slowly recovering in Alliance hospital after an appendectomy for influenza complications.
Dr. W A Awink returned Wednesday morning from Bustis Nebraska with his sister Mrs Samuel Schmeeckle of New Raymor Colorado. They were summoned home to attend the funeral of their soldier brother Dr Edwin Awink a flu victim at Camp Funston and well known in Sidney.
