Martin calls for resignation of Nebraska GOP official

Rep. Dave Martin urged Richard Herman of Omaha to resign as Nebraska's Republican national committeeman. He said Herman has lost effectiveness and sparked GOP anger with remarks during the campaign about Charles Thone and other candidates. Martin, assisting Virginia Smith in the 3rd District and McCollister in the 2nd, promised more comments Thursday.

School Board Sets Hearing on English Teacher Langland

The Sidney Board of Education will hold a special meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Junior High School Library for a public hearing on the performance of eighth grade English teacher Jack Langland. Superintendent Pedersen notes the hearing was requested by Langland and some parents.

Kocontes pleads guilty in firebombing case

Lonnie L. Kocontes, 17, changed his plea to guilty on arson and conspiracy charges tied to the April 17 firebombing of The Sidney Telegraph office. A destruction of property count was dismissed. Sentencing is set for Dec. 18. a co defendant, Ray Benkusky, faces Dec. 20 in District Court.
