Two vehicles were wrecked and three people severely injured in a county road collision south of Sidney around 2:55 p.m. Thursday. Deputy Sheriff Gene Morris said the crash occurred one mile south of Leonard Rieken farm, six miles south and a mile west of Sidney. The injured, treated at Memorial Hospital, include Mrs Robert Laffer with concussion and facial cuts plus collarbone fracture, her infant Daniel with a leg fracture, and Gene Tumbleson with a broken back listed as critical.

Snowstorm hits Nebraska Panhandle with heavy Dalton snowfall
A fast moving snowstorm blanketed parts of the Nebraska Panhandle with scattered snow and a heavy burst in Dalton where Don Dey Ermand reported three to four inches. Gusts peaked at 55 mph near Sidney after midnight with temperatures dropping from 38 to 19 by morning. Roads slick, overshoes needed, and a car stalled north of Dalton prompted a ride into town. Two students were left at the scene as rescuers sought help.
