Continental Oil expands county wide leasing drive

Continental Oil Company has built a large lease portfolio in Cheyenne County over the past three months, led by brokers Lee A. Adams and J. E. Nowery. They hold 110 plus leases from Range 53 to Range 46, spanning eastern to southeastern Cheyenne County and into Deuel County, with renewed seismic testing anticipated. The move aims to secure a block of leases in a region with little prior production as industry eyes potential deep sand oil extending from Gurley toward McCook and the Nebraska line.

Banner County Leads Week of New Oil Discoveries in Panhandle

Banner County reported three new discoveries this week led by Brinkerhoff Chingco Pan American and Consolidated Royalties on sections 26 4 and 17 56 with two tests yielding oil and gas. Kimball County posted four dry holes while Cheyenne County saw completions and abandonments including R K Kelleys No 2 Paviat in the Paviat property and the No 1 strandbeg wildcat with no tests.

Cheyenne County Government Day Slated for Monday

About 75 to 100 Cheyenne County high school students from nearly all communities will participate in Legion sponsored Government Day at the Courthouse. The day includes an oath of office, mock trial, county official introductions, a noon address by County Attorney Bob Richards, and student office duties ending at 3 p.m.

In Chevrie County Court Judge C W Smith ruled the Shetland pony was loaned, not given, to Karl Buses five years ago. Francis Mitchell Mitchel had filed suit alleging ownership by loan or gift disposition. The court denied recovery of fees and pasture costs. the pony valued at about $150.

Woman shoots Sidney man after argument in Pine Dale

Former Sidney resident Willam Bill Benkusky, 37, was shot and killed at Pine Dale, Wisconsin. Edith Johnson admitted shooting him with a .270 rifle after alleged quarrel and prior abuse. Sheriff W. W. Schulz said a warrant exists for Benkusky for non-support. Mrs. Benkusky and three children live in Sidney. Funeral plans not yet set.

Dalton Oil Pioneer Rex Carey Dies at 71

Rex Carey longtime Dalton oil businessman and civic leader died suddenly at his home after a long illness. Born February 6 1888 he helped found an oil firm in Dalton in 1927 and served on the town board and in civic groups. He leaves wife Faye Scher and three brothers with a service planned for later today in Denton.
