Sidney pilot Christensen joins Silver Wings charter
Albert C. Christensen of Sidney is honored at the Rotary meeting for his role in the 40th anniversary national air mail program. He soloed in 1929 in a 1926 Waco and has since logged 1340 flight hours in airplanes from the old crates to modern craft. Christensen, 51, recalls fighting the early controls and notes newer models like the 1960 Cessna are far steadier. He began lessons in Denver after eight hours of instruction, first soloing in August 1929, and credits flying with a lifelong pursuit that spans farm boy roots near Gurley to a pilot and aviation advocate.J
