First Snow Of Season Brings Good Moisture
A first major snowfall in western Nebraska brought moisture to farms, with five inches at Sidney and four at Scottsbluff. Strong eastern winds reduced visibility east of Grand Island, while roads remained hazardous locally. Farmers welcomed the snow for subsoil moisture ahead of 1959 wheat planting.

Over 1,400 registered at The Sidney National Bank open house with more than 2,700 attending a free Fox Theatre show. Two Plead Guilty To Forgeries In District Court
In district court Judge John Kuns accepted guilty pleas from Betty Stein 38 and Robert Howard about 25. Stein admitted forging a bogus 20 check Oct 22 written on a Sidney bank and passed in a grocery. She received one year in the State Reformatory for Women at York and is reportedly sought by Montana authorities for parole violation. Howard was given a two year paroled term and was ordered returned to Cheyenne County after release from a state penal institution.

J Fred Thompson presented a plan to Sidney Chamber of Commerce board to back a membership drive for the International Parks Highway Association. The goal is a federally designated north south highway through Sidney and western Nebraska with memberships at $10 annually. The drive involves J B Baker as chair and Charles Wuthier Kenneth Bagby and Harold Keith on the committee. Thompson expects 50 to 100 members and notes designation would put the route on maps and boost freight and tourist business. Funeral set for Sidney man and two children in crash
Funeral arrangements were pending for Arthur D. Scott Jr. and his two children, Karen Jo Scott six and Edwin Arthur four, killed in a snowbound high speed crash two miles north of Gurley on Highway 19. Karen Jo was pronounced dead at the scene and Edwin Arthur died in Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital. The mother Allyson, 30, remained in critical condition with the fifth child Kenneth, 18 months, hurt but listed in good shape. The wreck, linked to ice and snow, involved a northbound car driven by Felix Perez 21 of Sedgwick and a semi trailer truck with a cattle rack driven by Richard Hoagland 21 of Scottsbluff. Heavy injuries were reported for Mrs Donabel Scott who was not out of danger. A Nebraska Safety Patrolman cited hazardous road conditions.

Vehicle crash claims two lives and injures family
A car following a truck plunged into a ditch. the Scotts suffered severe head injuries. Kenneth Scott died about 1:30 am and his father, Mr. Scott, died around noon. Karen Jo and Edwin Arthur survived. Hoagland was uninjured. Kenneth Scott, born July 14, 1924, was a Chadron State College graduate and construction contractor.

Property Loss High On Roads Outside Sidney
A Sidney area report lists up to a dozen vehicle mishaps checked by city police, the sheriff, and the Nebraska Safety Patrol after a fatal car-truck crash Saturday night killed three local residents. The most serious property damage occurred when Harold Coryell lost control near Sidney, striking a Bell Telephone pole and breaking two wires. Slick streets blamed for several other crashes including Ann Burgett and Frank Hand. A Friday intersection crash at 19th Avenue and Elm Street caused about $550 damage to cars driven by Tom Howerter and High Perkins.
