A compiled reminiscence features tall jokes about a man who sold lava watermelons on a volcanic Pacific coast, drifted at sea on an iceberg, and traded an iceberg for cash. It contrasts his wild yarns with the blunt assertion that he was a successful maker of fibs, now deceased.
The account recalls Robert McStewart of St Joseph a rising political figure as head of the Hams bab and St Joseph railroad. After a boastful rise and a dramatic pardon scene involving fellow actor Buck Grover Stewart’s fate included a near fatal well accident in Jefferson City and a governor’s act of clemency. The tale ends with Grover paroled and aided into business by Stewart with the governor’s influence.
