Gen Howards command returns west after Nez Perces chase

Gen Howard and officers reach Omaha by steamer Benton and discharge at Sidney on Sunday. The force, about 350 strong, travels to Pacific posts including Fort Walla Walla Fort Vancouver and Fort Yuma.
