The Panhandle Association of County Officials will convene at the V. F. W. hall on the Scottsbluff Gering highway this Wednesday November 15. A blaze at the Feldman-Elsasser No. 1 oil well, one mile northwest of Sidney, drew hundreds of onlookers as Sidney firefighters fought to save the derrick and equipment. Damage to the rig and platform is estimated near twenty thousand dollars, with a two hour blaze. A second kitchen fire at Waddell's Cafe caused two to three thousand dollars in damage. Government crop observers report Nebraska’s 1950 corn crop at 241,922,000 bushels, the state’s ninth largest. The Department of Agriculture raised its estimate by over 3,000,000 bushels since last month. Also increased were estimates for sugar beets potatoes beans and grain sorghum.
