Sidney sees 408 air boardings after Frontier service boost

In two months since airport upgrades and Frontier Airlines expansion, Sidney reported 408 boardings. September had 234, October 174, up from prior months when CAB monthly quota of 150 often wasn’t met. Frontier added Jet Prop 580 Denver-Omaha service with Sidney stops and DC-3 flights continue, with holiday travel expected to raise November and December numbers.

Bids Opened on I 80 Paving Between Ogallala and Big Springs

State Department of Roads announced bids totaling 3.831 million dollars for I 80 paving and related work from Big Springs to Ogallala. Missouri Valley Construction Co of Grand Island appears to win nearly three million, with low bid totals below the forecast 4.1 million. Federal funding covers about 90 percent of costs.

Neb Music Educators meet here with all state orchestra band and chorus

Nebraska Music Educators Association members from nearly every school will attend the November meeting. A mass concert Saturday November 18 features an all state orchestra band and chorus conducted by Abraham Chavez Jr J R McEntyre and Elmer Copley with a Wichita Brass Quintet guest appearance Friday night. The event at the junior high school arena starts 7 30 p m and admission is one dollar.

Frontier Oil Co Merger Approved By Stockholders

Frontier Refining Co stockholders in Denver approved an 83 percent vote for merging with Husky Oil Canada Ltd. Assets are to transfer to Husky by year end. Husky's T. G. Wise will relocate to Denver in advisory role during reorganization. Three Frontier officers joined the board: E. E. Evans J. L. Olvey and R. R. Robineau.

Soil Dinner Honors Cheyenne County District 21st Anniversary

The Cheyenne County Soil and Water Conservation District holds a Nov 14 dinner at Sidney High School cafeteria marking 21 years. Darrell Hunt will MC a program presenting conservation awards including a framed aerial photo. Entertainment features Mr. and Mrs. Danny Liska who recount a grand overland trek via color film from Alaska to Argentina with vivid jungle, river, glacier, desert and Amazon head hunter scenes.

Dalton Concert Saturday Evening at School Auditorium

The Minuteman Activities Conference band concert occurs at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Dalton school auditorium with about 300 students from eight schools taking part in concerts lectures and clinics. Admission is 75 cents for adults and 25 cents for students.

Ticket Issued In Car Mishap At Summit and Monterey

A two car crash at Summit Drive and Monterey Avenue left minor damage. Judith Y. Brive, 23, Sidney, driving south on Monterey, failed to yield and collided with Stanley Wells, 44, Sidney, who was driving east on Summit. Brive was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.

Classified Ad Bills Misleading Sidney Businesses

Paul O Hara of Northwestern Bell warns Sidney business and professional men about a mail solicitation claiming to be a bill for a national Classified Directory. He stresses it is not a Bell Yellow Pages bill and the telephone company is not involved in publishing the directory.

Hunter Gunfire Damages County Phone Lines

Three cases of hunters destroying property in Cheyenne County drew sheriff's attention this week. A rural telephone line north of Sidney was shot, cutting service for several hours. A communications building north of town was shot, narrowly missing equipment. A farm home owned by Roy Tobler was shot. a window and door lock were damaged. The sheriff warned of serious penalties for property destruction especially when public communications are disrupted.

WNUCC Meets Next Tuesday

The Western Nebraska United Chambers of Commerce holds its bi monthly meeting in Gordon next Tuesday. Directors meet in the Sheridan Hotel coffee shop at 2 30 p m courtesy hour at 5 p m in the Sheridan Club and a banquet in the City auditorium at 6 45. Farmers Group Meets Tuesday in Cheyenne County

The Cheyenne County National Farmers Organization met Nov. 7 with Frank Jones of Lodge Pole as speaker. He promoted the NFO grain bank and membership drive. Devel County will be chartered on Nov. 17 at 7 30 p.m. at the Devel County Bank in Chappell. District II meets in Sidney on Nov. 25 at 7 30 p.m. The next Cheyenne County meeting is set for Nov. 21.

Agreement Reached on Cheyenne Deuel County Road

Cheyenne and Deuel county commissioners approved a boundary road care plan after a joint session. The road from Highway 30 east of Lodgepole serves two residences and will be cared for in alternating odd and even years by the two counties, with Cheyenne maintaining a bridge and Deuel paying half the cost. A second agreement allows Marathon Oil to bury a crude oil pipeline under a county road three miles east of Huntsman.

Indiana Man Dies In One Car Wreck

An out of state man Garret Hartley 67 of Michigan City Indiana died in a one car crash last night on Highway 30 one and a half miles east of Potter. No autopsy was performed authorities believe natural causes.

Industry Development Plans Outlined At Nebraska Meeting

Representatives from Scottsbluff Sidney Crawford Chadron and Alliance attended the first of five Nebraska Department of Economic Development meetings in Alliance. James W. Monroe outlined the department structure and goals to match industry needs with community assets. Gene Wheeler urged statewide industry recognition and steps for communities to attract business, including desire organization asset inventory and action. Attendees from Sidney included Robert L. Work Study At Vo Tech School Being Set Up

Federal funds enable a 50 week work and study program at the Vo Tech school through the Office of Economic Opportunity. Three vacancies offer 30 hours of work and 10 of study weekly, paying about 1.50 dollars per hour, with a full 40 hour work week. Chamber Dinner Set for January 15 1968

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce announces its annual banquet will be January 15 1968 at the Sidney National Guard Armory. The event combines chamber members service clubs teachers and school groups in Cheyenne County with over 650 expected attendees. Tickets go on sale later through chamber members and service clubs.

Diabetes Week Begins in Nebraska for Detection Drive

The Nebraska State Medical Association kicks off Diabetes Week starting Sunday and lasting through November 18. Chairman Morris Margolin says many Nebraskans with diabetes are undiagnosed and urges everyone to get tested to prevent serious complications and ensure access to medical care.
