Young Norfolk inventor promises new automatic carriage for typewriters
Robert Eugene Turner born in Norfolk on November 26 and educated at Norfolk High School solved a long standing problem of automatic carriage return for typewriters. His device regulates power by the space bar and can return lines automatically or by a key. The invention improves control, reduces effort for touch typists, and adds only nominal cost to machines with durable, low maintenance design. Turner filed his patent in February 1905 at about age ten.
