In Lincoln Nebraska several potential Democratic candidates exclude a 1978 bid against Rep Virginia Smith RK Neb. Names considered include James Hansen Holly Hodge Ben Wilson Jim Wolf Jack Cary Larry Doyle Rich Fitzsimmons and others with doubts about feasibility time and money. Smith won narrowly in 1974 and surged to victory last year.

McCook rally pushes for 100 percent farm parity strike

McCook Nebraska drew more than 4000 area farmers and families for an American Agriculture rally at the city auditorium. Stan DeBoer of Bertrand led calls for parity and a Dec 14 farm strike if producers do not receive full parity on all crops.

Weekend crashes kill three persons in state

Three Nebraskans died in weekend traffic accidents in Nebraska and Iowa, all on Saturday. John Funkhouser, 37, Adams, died when his car hit a semi on Highway 4 and 41 in Gage County. Joseph Horvatich, 19, Elkhorn, and Coleen Leonard, 14, were injured as their eastbound car left the road near Fremont. Robert Robinette, 50, Niobrara, was killed when his truck hit a Milwaukee Road train near Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

The seven member executive board of WIFE urged President Carter to fire Assistant Agriculture Secretary Howard Hiort after his Oct 29 Sidney convention speech used 1975 farm cost statistics. WIFE leader Betty Majors of Osceola said Hiort insulted their integrity and should know production costs, noting he oversees four USDA agencies.

Sidney Earns All Nebraska Status in Multiple Categories

Sidney has been designated All Nebraska in education fire protection housing industrial development law enforcement criminal justice library services parks and recreation planning solid waste practices wastewater collection and disposal and water supply systems by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. The department administers the program with the Community Resource and Research Center at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Sidney did not qualify in airport improvements health services or street improvements.

Sidney National Bank will host an open house November 15 to celebrate 25 years in Sidney. Officers directors and 22 employees will greet customers from 9 am to 3 pm as assets have grown from about 600000 on opening day to over 13 million by Sept 30.
