Chadron State College quarterback Burns set new marks for passes completed, passing yardage, and total offense during the 1974 season. He completed 90 of 176 passes for 1,282 yards over nine games, surpassing old records held by Schwartz and Turman. He also rushed for 46 yards, giving a total offense of 1,328, eclipsing Gold’s 1968 standard. Freshman Chad Emanuel set CSC's record with a 49 yard field goal. The team also posted 28 first downs in a game against Colorado Mines, a new record.
