Beck led Grubbs for attorney general. Johnson led Kelly. Larson edged Monroe Bixler. Western Nebraska noted Democrat trend but statewide results surprised observers.
Don McGinley of Ogallala defeats A L Miller in the 4th District with strong rural support amid farm unrest. Miller conceded as McGinley touted change and Democratic gains, crediting farm issues and labor questions in a post election statement.

Peter A. Sandoz 77 died Monday at St Josephs Hospital Alliance Neb He was born April 13 1881 in Bern Switzerland and came to the United States in 1890 He homesteaded on the Niobrara River and worked for Doctor Bellwood and Burlington Railroad He married Elsie Raymond in 1904 and they ranched 30 miles north of Ellsworth He retired in 1948 and was a cousin of the late Jules Sandoz credited as instigator of the Sandoz family in the United States.
Sidney firemen were called to a blaze one mile east of Sidney on the Union Pacific tracks at 10 25 a m and again at 12 27 p m when the fire rekindled, forcing two responses on Tuesday.
The first Sidney Veterans Day program in years will feature speaker Jack Holtorf and a 2 p.m. City Auditorium ceremony led by Lloyde Adams. The event includes bronze stars for 13 locals, with the High School Band, a prayer, and a bean feed for service members. Merchants will close all day in honor, and a veteran coffee is planned in the auditorium basement.

Scottsbluff citizens again vote against liquor by the drink. The proposal was defeated by more than two to one, repeating the 1946 outcome.
Oil and gas severance tax for September totaled 118,444 dollars. Tax from crude oil production was 116,288 dollars and natural gas accounted for 2,155 dollars. Severance revenue for August was 87,003 dollars and for September last year 101,887 dollars.
Donations to the Kenneth Dobrinski fund in Dalton total 360 dollars led by Dalton Lion’s Club co chairs John Heizer and Ray Weed. Kenneth was taken to Denver for examination with his mother and Ed McGowan attending. Upcoming fund raisers include a bake sale on November 8 at the Heizer Store and a November 15 music program at the schoolhouse by local students.
More than 140 thousand Nebraskans voted for J. R. Kelly a dead candidate for state auditor who died days before the election. Kelly polled 143 449 votes showing a surprising turnout in Cheyenne County nearly defeating incumbent Ray Johnson.
Cheyenne County voters rejected the one-tenth mill levy for the Cheyenne County Historical Society. Pre election inquiries showed little support as residents cited already high taxes and the desire to avoid nonessential new charges. Senator A A Fenske sponsored the measure, urging a permissive law giving counties the right to decide locally.
Cheyenne County voters Tuesday rejected or approved a mix of local and state measures while swapping several incumbents. Pindell defeated Heaton for county clerk as Ruttner, Balderson, and McGinley won key races, and Burns and Brooks trailed in statewide contests.
