Brief Session of District Court Proceedings

The adjourned district court convened last Monday with cases including David T. Hall of the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad Co. where verdict for defendants was directed after Hall was injured unloading cream cans. Simon v Stimpkie settled out of court. Wolf v Johnson mortgage foreclosure favored defendant. Brewer v Union Pacific R R Co. postponed to November 11.

Out of Town Attorneys Attend Adjourned Nebraska Court Term

Attorneys Hoagland and Hoag, John Halligan described as Nestor of the Bar of Western Nebraska, E. E. Whitted of Burlington at Denver, and E. H. Crocker of Union Pacific attended the recent adjourned term of the district court as out of town counsel.

Rail progress and accidents at Julesburg to Kimball line

The round house framework rises as Kent Allen arrives from Omaha to serve as stenographer. Foremen direct bridge work for the new second track from Julesburg to Kimball, with repairs and pile driving crews arriving. Brakemen Wilcoxen and Leggett are injured and hospitalized after incidents near Pine Bluffs and Cheyenne. A Rock River collision is attributed to head brakeman Robert E. Lee, killing an engineer and fireman and injuring several. Red Cross car visits Sidney teaching first aid. New general manager Scott comes through Sidney. rail rails for Pine Bluffs to Julesburg are distributed.

Man Charged With Statutory Offense In Cheyenne County

Richard Hamann was arrested on a statutory charge involving his stepdaughter Alice Rufenacht aged about fifteen to sixteen. The case emerged after her mother reported years of alleged illicit relations and a doctor confirmed the claim. Hamann waived examination and was bound over to district court with bond set at 5000 dollars. he remained jailed in Grand Island due to local facilities.

History Club Meets At Greenlees Home For Greek History

The History Club held a Friday evening meeting hosted by Mr. A. K. Greenlee with Albert Greenlee as president. The program added Greek History to its series though limited by other school events. Performances included an instrumental solo by Miss Mabel Closman, Greek Mythology by Miss Helen Lindsay, and a reading by Miss Wehrs.

Andrew J. Haskell born 1832 in Medford Massachusetts died October 27 1911 in Sidney at 79. Married Adeline Poole 24, and after her death married Mrs C S Robinson in 1910. Served in Co F 10th Kansas Infantry enlisting 1861 discharged 14 months later. Longtime Sidney business figure and G A R officer. Funeral at Methodist Episcopal church with band at cemetery.
