Pancake Day Set For Nov 8 In Sidney at Elks Auditorium

Sidney Lions Club and Sidney High Band Auxiliary announce Aunt Jemima Pancake Day on Wednesday November 8 at the Elks Auditorium. Pancakes served 7 a m to 7 p m with all you can eat. Season Opens On Pheasants In Nebraska Nov 4

The pheasant season begins at six a m tomorrow with hunting hours from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Open to cock pheasants only from Nov 4 to Jan 21. Hen season runs Jan 1 to Jan 21 in special areas. Bag limit four, possession limit sixteen. Hunters must obtain landowner permission for private property access.

Sidney High Band Joins Lincoln Parade Before Football Game

Sidney High School band travels to Lincoln with 112 local members and 22 sponsors to march with 59 other bands ahead of the Nebraska Iowa game. The march begins 9 15 a m with a parade route downtown and a 7 15 a m departure by bus. The halftime concert features the Cornhusker Marching Band and a program of marches and hymns.

Snow falls hinder travel to State Wheat Show in Sidney

A wet heavy snow hampered travel to the State Wheat Show in Sidney while boosting soil moisture. Reports indicate depths from a trace to six inches across the Panhandle with Lodgepole valley and Dalton seeing the heaviest falls. Temperatures dropped to three below in Dalton and minus two in Gurley with scattered 4 to 6 inch pockets.

State Patrol Report Details October Activities

Sgt Felix Koenig issued a report on October patrols in Kimball Sidney and Chappell. The patrol gave 22 safety programs aided 229 motorists cleared 153 highway obstructions investigated 26 accidents and issued 618 violation cards. Court appearances totaled 226 including four for driving while intoxicated. Two stolen cars were recovered and three felony arrests were made. Patrol cars logged 44956 miles.

Truck And Tree Collision Causes $2500 Damage

A 1954 white truck driven by Ferdinand K. Schneider, 34, of Kimball, failed brakes on a hill near 1640 Grant Street and hit a tree, causing about $2500 in damage to Caravan Water Service’s vehicle, per Sidney Police.

VFW Poppy Sale Planned for Saturday Across County

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary will canvas Cheyenne County communities for the annual Buddy Poppy sale. Ed Colone and Mrs. Cliff Wolf co chair the effort urging wide participation. More than half of net proceeds stay locally to aid needy veterans, with the rest funding national rehabilitation services. The program allocates a penny per poppy to the National Home for Widows and Orphans at Eaton Rapids Michigan, founded in 1925, with all poppies made by disabled veterans.
