Medical cost drop signals slowing rise in prices
The first drop since 1949 shows medical care costs easing by one tenth of one per cent. Arnold Chase, assistant commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, noted the decline reflects a slower long-term rise in medical costs, with September decreases mainly in drug prices. Housing costs rose two tenths of a per cent due to higher ownership costs and hikes in fuel oil textiles furnishings and services.
