About three hundred entries from Nebraska state wheat growers fill the City Auditorium for the 1951 Nebraska Wheat Show. Judging begins at noon under county agents and extension staff amid hail-affected yields and anticipation of Boninama’s Wheat King crown. Wheat looks good, sorghum yields are light due to frost, sugar beets and alfalfa show promise, and feed grains vary by county from shortage to surplus with overall ample moisture and forage supplies.

Union Pacific aids in clearing Sidney traffic jams
City Council heard from Nebraska division superintendent J. E. Mulick that new orders will push to keep crossings open. He said freight movements from the west may require brief pauses at 13th Avenue, but 10th Avenue crossings should stay clear with trains kept moving. Mulick promised stricter enforcement by Trainmaster W. E. Henke to reduce deliberate rule violations, while noting current freight loads and the desire for a grade separation crossing in the future.

Major Levy To Pentagon Post
Major Gilbert Levy was guest of honor at a testimonial banquet at Sioux Ord nance Depot attended by about 100. The event bade farewell as he departs November 11 for a Pentagon assignment in Washington. Ward Olson chaired. Jack H Lowe praised Levy and presented a gift. Lt Col J D Peterson and Harold Katz spoke. Levy arrived at Sioux Ord in September 1947 with his mother Mrs Rose Levy living on depot quarters.

531 Pound Cheese Wheel Displayed at Rudy's IGA
A 531 pound wheel of cheddar cheese is on display at Rudy's IGA as part of a promotional event. The making of the cheese required 286 cows 22 farmers 176 man hours and 1980 acres of land. A guessing contest on the number of pounds of milk used accompanies the display, with a cheese company representative scheduled to be present on Saturday November 10 to cut the wheel.
Seimers No 1 Well Rework Under Rotary Tools
The Seimers No 1 well in Huntsman field north end is being reworked with rotary tools. Located SW SW NW of Section 6 14 49 on Lena Siemers land, drilled months ago as a Frontier Refining Co Denver and Deep Rock Oil Co Chicago joint venture. It never was a large producer but has pumped steadily amid substantial salt water recovery, and Frontier is said to have sold its interest to Deep Rock.
