Wheel detaches as car overturns near Sidney

Two Brigham Young University students from Michigan were briefly treated after a 1962 Volkswagen skidded on Highway 30 three miles west of Sidney Nebraska, toppled onto its right side, then righted and later lost its right front wheel during backing at Memorial Hospital. Ronald W. Ragon, 19, and Elaine Hiedemann, 20, were released with minor cuts. The car was towed for repairs.

Lincoln Neb to finish Interstate by 1972 deadline

State Engineer John Hossack said Lincoln Nebraska must finish the Interstate by the 1972 deadline unless unforeseen issues arise. Nebraska has 54 percent of the $283 million cost spent or obligated after a late start.

Wuthiers Sell DeLuxe Motel to Lamplighter Owners

The Lamplighter Motel in Fort Collins, Colo., is announced as purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wuthier of Sidney. They will take possession June 10, moving from June 5 to 8 after operating the DeLuxe Motel in Sidney for about 13 years. The DeLuxe was included in a trade with new Lamplighter owners Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Spencer of Sidney.

Traffic in Sidney Shows Two Minor Wrecks

Sidney police reported a good week for traffic with two minor accidents. At 3:56 p.m. Le Roy Tilghman 18 slowed to turn left onto 13th Avenue and was rear ended by Judy Malloy 18 causing $65 damage. At 12:05 p.m. Ruby Spindler Henkle backed from a parking space and struck Billy Hammond causing $57 damage.

Tragic Fontenelle boating tragedy recalled at memorial rites

Memorial services held at St. Pauls Lutheran for victims of a Fontenelle Reservoir boating accident near Fontenelle Wyoming. Rites conducted for Glenn Howerter 44, Bernetta Kilgore Howerter 43, Edward Curry 26, and Mrs. Ed ward Curry 21 with two young children still missing. Survivors include Kilgore family members and Currys. Memorials note Halliburton ties and long local residence connections.

Harold Rowan Dies Wednesday Of Heart Attack

Harold Rowan 67 a Broken Bow banker died of a heart attack Wednesday afternoon while driving near Broken Bow. He was born in Cheyenne County and part of a pioneer family. Funeral services are set for Sunday at two in Broken Bow with graveside rites Monday at two in Sidney. Survivors include his wife Doris Bates Rowan two sisters two brothers and extended in laws in Denver Colorado Springs Lodgepole and Kansas City.

Two New Oil Wells Added In Panhandle Nebraska

Western Nebraska reports two new wells this week Chandler and Associates drill No. 1-Wise-B in Kimball County and Edward Mike Davis No. 1 Thompson in Banner County. Chandler recovered 470 feet of oil and 75 feet of mud in a 1 sand test. A wildcat in Scotts Bluff failed at No. 1 Cook GW NW Sec 36-23-56 after 5065 feet. Drizzly Rain Boosts Cheyenne County Crops

Cool damp weather and an early morning downpour revived parched wheat and pastures in Cheyenne County. Ivan Liljegren notes heading should occur June 2 to 4 with harvest around July 15, and warns heat and wind would hurt crops. Rain amount varies across the county, with totals around .07 to .31 inches locally. Please turn to Page Four.

Bluffs Monument Schedule Is Set

Keith E. Miller, superintendent at Scotts Bluff National Monument, announced a new summer schedule effective Saturday. Summit road access for automobiles will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with all visitors off the summit by 7:30 p.m. The museum will operate daily 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Automobile permit fees start Saturday.

New Manager At Ft. Sidney Hotel Has Long Experience

L. H. Russell to assume management of the Ft. Sidney Motor Hotel on July 1. A Missouri native and Nebraska resident for a decade, he brings 15 years with Eppley Hotels, including Fontenelle Hotel in Omaha. In 1960 he founded Institutional Catering and Management Services, later selling it in 1963. He is married with four daughters.

Potter man moved after pickup crash finds pelvis fracture

Homer Light 71 was hospitalized after a Tuesday afternoon pickup accident. He was transferred to Memorial Hospital in Kimball after X rays Wednesday showed a fractured pelvis from being thrown from the vehicle.

Continued cool conditions with considerable cloudiness and a few showers through tomorrow. Low tonight 40 to 45 degrees. High tomorrow expected between 60 and 70 degrees.

Livoni Services Set Monday in Littleton for N C Livoni

Funeral services for N C Bud Livoni will be held Monday at two oclock at Nichols Hill Mortuary in Littleton Colorado. Burial follows at Ft Logan Cemetery. Livoni, a former Sidney resident and building contractor, helped develop Country Club Heights Addition in Sidney and worked on projects in Kimball and other Nebraska towns. He is survived by his wife Margaret four children his mother a brother and two sisters.

Wheat Sign-Up Falls Short of Goal in 1964 Program

Washington reports farmer enrollment in the new wheat adjustment program was below expectations as 76 percent of the reduced national planting allotment had signed up by Thursday. Farms pledged to limit harvesting to or below their individual allotments, but overall participation lagged targets.

Rites Set For Victim Asphyxiation

William Frazee 29 died from asphyxiation while repairing a gas leak at 1372 Palomino Place. He worked for Kansas Nebraska Gas Co. for two years, dug a ditch for the job, and was found unconscious after leaving a three foot deep trench with 28 pounds pressure gas. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gehrig & Son Funeral Home with cremation in Denver to follow. Frazee, born January 28, 1935 in Julesburg, served five years in the Navy and is survived by his widow Kiyoko, a stepson, parents, a stepsister, and a stepbrother.
