Queen Contest Opens Fort Sidney Days Festival
The Queen contest kicks off with a grand opening at Fort Sidney Days. New Post Engineer Appointed At SOD
Major N W Bittner is named Post Engineer and Wire Marshall at Si Ordnance Depot. Lt Col James D Peterson announces the assignment as Major Bittner joins from Fort Benjamin Harrison Indiana where he led the rehabilitation program. He served in Europe with General Patton in World War II and has 22 years in the Corps of Engineers.

Open house draws 2500 to American National Bank
About twenty five hundred attendees visit the American National Bank Saturday for an open house celebrating a remodel. President A J Jorgenson expresses satisfaction with the turnout and with the interior update. Flowers, cake, and coffee are offered. the event extends near an hour past the scheduled four to eight PM. Out of town bankers attend from Lincoln and Omaha. Pioneer Dies McIntosh Service Is Thursday
Western Nebraska reports the sudden death of Mrs. John T. McIntosh at 77. An early Sidney settler, she came with the McFadden family as an infant and lived here ever since. Funeral services are Thursday at St Patrick’s with Msgr Link officiating. burial in Sidney Cemetery by her late husband. She served as Sidney Public Library librarian 1940 to 1948.

156 New Meters Installed Along Sidney Streets
One hundred fifty six new automatic parking meters were installed on Sidney streets over the weekend to curb all day parking and aid farmers and shoppers. Meter stalls extend onto Jackson street and 11th Avenue with four meters at 10th and Illinois for 12 minutes. Five blocks now feature two hour limits on Jackson and 11th. others remain 12 minutes to one hour. City officials hope downtown parking improves.

Sgt. FC Harley E. Ferrier of Sidney is awarded the Bronze Star by the First Cavalry division for meritorious achievement in Korea from September 1 to November 2, 1950. He helped break enemy defenses, cross the 38th parallel, and advance toward Pyongyang with the unit. Mrs. Ferrier and their baby reside in Sidney. he is the son of Mrs. Carleton Haze of Sidney.

Bauer farm eight miles east suffered thefts with $75 cash and hose jewelry missing, while a stock well pump motor was taken at Bauer.
