Submarine Holland Sent to Santiago to Destroy Spanish Fleet

Special to Sidney Telegraph reports May 27 that the inventor Holland and his submarine boat have been sent to Santiago to enter the harbor and attempt to destroy the Spanish fleet. A Spanish auxiliary cruiser was sighted off Kry West and chased by the Montgomery. both ships vanished while exchanging fire, with the American vessel believed to carry heavier guns.

Porto Rico Invasion Planned After Santiago Victory

Washington May 25 reports say a planned invasion of Porto Rico follows news of the Spanish fleet bottled up at Santiago. Secretary Alger Assistant Secretary Meiklejohn and General Miles held a conference and agreed on a vigorous campaign. Troops may reach Tampa tonight or tomorrow with naval convoys from Florida.

The Overland Limited now runs daily via the Chicago Union Pacific and Northwestern Line between Salt Lake City and Chicago.
