Washington May 19 The discussion focuses on whether Blanco maintains Spain to Santiago de Cuba by shore cable or land wires. If by land lines it shows Spain controls the island’s wires. otherwise insurgents may cut them. Cuban efforts have disappointed, with the failure of the Gussie expedition and reports that Blanco’s telegraph wires are unmolested across Cuba. Army authorities doubt insurgent support will be needed in the upcoming campaign.

Session of Stock Growers Elects Officers at Alliance

The Northwest Nebraska Stock Growers Association met in Alliance on May 10 with 9156 members. A. S. Reed was elected president, J. R. VanBoskirk secretary treasurer, and R. M. Hampton led a push for future expansion and a larger inspection program. A 15 member committee was formed to set assessments and inspect cattle, with dues proposed at 3.5 cents per head and annual dues of 3.5 dollars.

R. R. Boys Celebrate Flag Raising in Public Ceremony

The R. R. Boys band led by Drum Major Solomoneon paraded from the courthouse at 5 30 pm with a plug hat for the occasion. They joined the Woman's Relief Corps G A R and Sons of Veterans at a new flag staff near the oil house in the railroad yards. J N Stifler led three cheers for Dewey and Sampson as Rev Thos Bakes gave a brief war history and read a Dewey poem. Ed Doran and A Britton of the G A R raised a large American flag as engines whistle amid cheers.
