Dry land seed potatoes urged for Nebraska farmers
University of Nebraska Agricultural College endorses dry land seed potatoes as superior for irrigated western and central Nebraska. Irrigated seed is worth less by 10 to 40 percent, with two years irrigation reducing value further. In 1921 Scotty Bluff county growers reported at least 100 bushels per acre gain using dry land seed, and over 40 carloads are planted in the North Platte Valley this year.

Sudan grass has spread in the United States over about 13 years for pasture and hay. Nebraska’s Agricultural College notes its value as supplementary pasture, with small acreages carrying more stock than most pastures except sweet clover. It can be sown with grain drill at 20 to 25 pounds per acre from May 15 to July 1, needs six weeks growth before grazing, and yields 2 to 3 tons per acre for two cuttings.
