Cheyenne County Receives Largest Wheat Acreage Increase

Nebraska ASC increases Cheyenne County wheat allotment to 167 219 acres for the coming fall up from 164 297 this year. The rise reflects the highest county allotment in three years with notices going to producers before the July 20 referendum. Auto collision causes heavy damage at city intersection

At the Dodge Street and 16th Avenue intersection about 8 35 a m yesterday two Sidney drivers Layton Maddox 37 and Irene Lambert 37 collided. Maddox car westbound Lambert car southbound struck its right rear. Damage over 700 with no injuries.

Mrs Jesse Osborn longtime welfare head dies in Arizona

Mrs Jesse Osborn 61 former Cheyenne County Welfare Director died Monday in a Phoenix Arizona hospital after illness. She directed the county welfare office from 1937 until spring and helped organize WPA projects. Survivors include husband Jesse Osborn two children four grandchildren and siblings. Funeral arrangements are in Phoenix.

The Bode family of Dalton faced rabies after their cat bit Mrs. Bode and tests confirmed rabies. Two days later their dog showed the same disease and all three children Galen eight and Ricky six along with Mrs. Bode began daily anti rabies shots for two weeks.

Ft. Robinson Opening Will Offer Huge Menu

Weather and crop reports show scattered rains boosting winter wheat prospects in the Nebraska Panhandle and western counties. Buddy Poppy Day Set On Saturday

The Buddy Poppy Sale organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars will occur this Saturday at the Maytag Store with co chairs Mrs W A Atkins and Joe Murrell. Proceeds stay in Sidney to aid needy veterans and families. one cent from each sale goes to veterans hospitals. On Friday the auxiliary will canvass the Sioux Ordnance Depot.

Auto wreck at Krueger's Lake crossing injures none

A 1948 model car was destroyed when an eastbound Union Pacific freight train struck it at Krueger's Lake crossing, six miles east of Sidney. Driver Albert Siemers and passenger Richard Volkman, both of Sidney, escaped injury but faced charges. Siemers fined $5 and costs for no license and Volkman charged with intoxication.
