Cheyenne county valuations climb with new Sidney real estate values boosting district totals. Personal property falls drag overall, while business values may dip under basic value law.
Miss Vernon Robinson, longtime Sidney High School librarian, retires after 25 years at the desk since the new senior high opened. A trained librarian from Kearney to New York, she taught 41 years in total, enjoys collecting records and photography, travels widely, and will spend time at Yellowstone before returning home for a period of rest.
Funeral services were held in Denver for Simon Fishman 77 a longtime Sidney merchant who died Sunday after a long illness Leon Fine and Leonard Fine accompanied by the Leon Fine family attended the funeral Fishman and Leon Fine were brothers in law
The Sidney National Bank sponsors a free 'School's Out' show tomorrow at the Fox Theatre starting at 2 pm with doors opening at 1 30 pm. Main feature is Roy Rogers in Man From Oklahoma with his horse Trigger, plus three color cartoons. All Sidney area schoolchildren are invited.
The Kimball Rotary Club will hold its charter meeting tomorrow night with the Sidney club as sponsor. J. I. Christiansen will be first president of the 20 member club and Ed Flohr is secretary. The new club is part of District No. 176 as rapid city growth attracts Rotary interest.
Nebraska ASC increases Cheyenne County wheat allotment to 167 219 acres for the coming fall up from 164 297 this year. The rise reflects the highest county allotment in three years with notices going to producers before the July 20 referendum. Other county quotas listed include Deuel Banner Kimball Morrill Scotts Bluff Box Butte Garden Keith and more.
The Telegraph prints a Friday notice noting Pat Bales was accidentally omitted from the St Patrick’s High School graduate list. The correction appears in the same issue.

At the Dodge Street and 16th Avenue intersection about 8 35 a m yesterday two Sidney drivers Layton Maddox 37 and Irene Lambert 37 collided. Maddox car westbound Lambert car southbound struck its right rear. Damage over 700 with no injuries.
Mrs Jesse Osborn 61 former Cheyenne County Welfare Director died Monday in a Phoenix Arizona hospital after illness. She directed the county welfare office from 1937 until spring and helped organize WPA projects. Survivors include husband Jesse Osborn two children four grandchildren and siblings. Funeral arrangements are in Phoenix.
The Bode family of Dalton faced rabies after their cat bit Mrs. Bode and tests confirmed rabies. Two days later their dog showed the same disease and all three children Galen eight and Ricky six along with Mrs. Bode began daily anti rabies shots for two weeks.
The Ft. Robinson dedication near Crawford will feature a massive barbecue to feed about 5,000 guests. In charge is William J Loeffel of the University of Nebraska animal husbandry department. A free noon meal precedes the fort dedication with Gov Victor Anderson and state legislators among expected dignitaries.
Weather and crop reports show scattered rains boosting winter wheat prospects in the Nebraska Panhandle and western counties. Areas from the North Platte Valley to Colorado report 0.1 to over 2 inches of rain with hail in spots. Logan County and Pine Bluffs received beneficial showers while corn planting lags behind normal across most districts.
The Buddy Poppy Sale organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars will occur this Saturday at the Maytag Store with co chairs Mrs W A Atkins and Joe Murrell. Proceeds stay in Sidney to aid needy veterans and families. one cent from each sale goes to veterans hospitals. On Friday the auxiliary will canvass the Sioux Ordnance Depot.
A 1948 model car was destroyed when an eastbound Union Pacific freight train struck it at Krueger's Lake crossing, six miles east of Sidney. Driver Albert Siemers and passenger Richard Volkman, both of Sidney, escaped injury but faced charges. Siemers fined $5 and costs for no license and Volkman charged with intoxication.
