Lodgepole star Kehl wins at state track meet

Greg Kehl of Lodgepole dominated Class D events at the 1967 state track championships in Kearney. He won the 100 yard dash and the broad jump with a 22-1 leap, took second in the 220, earning 16 points for Lodgepole, which finished runner-up to Overton.

Col Williams Receives Second Highest Peace Time Award

Lt Col Cyril P Williams Sioux Army Depot activity commander received the Legion of Merit Legionnaire Degree in Pueblo Colo on May 18. Col Donald Greeley presented on behalf of the president with attendance by 77 former Sioux employees. The award covered May 1 1964 to May 1 1967 during the depot inactivation. Williams leaves Thursday for leave before reassignment to Saudi Arabia. Major Ralph E Campbell Jr will command for the final five weeks of inactivation.

Exchange Students Named from Sidney to Foreign Program

Two Sidney juniors Elizabeth Cunningham and David McCumber have been selected for Rotary Foreign Exchange, to Finland and South Australia respectively, for a year this summer. Also Julie Wertz, a 1967 Chappell High graduate, will study in Amsterdam for a year.

John Sell 65 died Friday at Memorial Hospital in Sidney after a brief illness. A Cheyenne County resident for 45 years he was a farmer and road maintenance equipment operator. Services Tuesday 2:30 pm from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Henry Monnich officiating. Burial Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include wife Regina two sons Donald D Kimball and Eugene D Sidney eight brothers and sisters and five grandchildren. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home in charge. Wheatbelt Public Power District sponsors a Thursday night meeting at the 4-H Building to discuss irrigation development in the Panhandle tablelands. Nebraskan experts Frank Smith and Vern Souders will present maps and test-drilling logs from Cheyenne County and discuss water availability and costs, inviting farmers to explore shared-cost irrigation and land preparation questions.

Marathon to Operate Platte Pipe Line System

Marathon Pipe Line Company will assume operation and maintenance of the Platte Pipe Line System a 1222 mile jointly owned crude oil pipeline from Byron Wyoming to Wood River. The Platte Pipe Line Company five stockholders voted to switch to an agency type of operation and contract Marathon to handle operations and administration starting June 1.

Academy Graduates 29 At 49th Commencement Exercises Held Sunday

The 49th annual commencement at Sidney St. Patrick's Academy honored 29 graduates in a Sunday ceremony. Diplomas were handed by Rev. Vincent Pelster and the school superintendent, with Ray Josten assisting. Several students received awards and scholarships from Marymount College, KSID Sportscasters Club, and Catholic Daughters of America.

Burgett Peetz of the Sidney area chairs Cheyenne County Fair Board for a fifth term and serves on the Centennial Celebration Committee. A long-time farmer and Elks member, he and his wife Betty reside in Sidney with three children. They plan to attend August events including the RCA Rodeo and Johnny Ringo show.

Cattle and Hog Prices Firm At Sidney Auction

Cattle and hog prices were generally good Saturday at The Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion. Steers topped at 30.80 and hogs at 23. The best steers weighed 345 to 465 pounds, lighter weights commanded high prices. Top hog price went to 220 to 235 pounders. Stocker heifers 348 to 409 pounds brought 26.65 to 28.35, average around 27.50. Odd lots of yearling heifers sold 22.50 to 23.25. 508 pound steer calves brought 29.20, heavier 655 pounders 26. Cows ranged 16.10 to 17, canners and cutters 15 to 16, light butcher bulls 21.50 to 21.75.

Jessen Purchases 4255 Acres From Kellys Near Pine Bluffs

Leo Jessen of Oshkosh Nebraska acquires 4255 acre Kelly ranch seven miles southwest of Pine Bluffs Wyoming for 184000 dollars. The spread includes 480 acres hay meadow 189 acres wheat land 2946 native pasture and 640 acres state school lease land. The Kelly family plans to move to Western Australia in June joining daughter Liz and husband James Reher already there.
