Preliminary figures indicate ten of eleven Nebraska Panhandle counties lost population from 1960 to 1970, with Cheyenne County suffering the largest decline at 28.5 percent and an overall Panhandle decrease of 11,459. Scotts Bluff bucked the trend, rising from 33,809 to 36,001 aided by Nebraska West ern College and Hiram Scott College.

Eighty four bankers from across Nebraska gathered in Sidney to honor Herb Echtermeyer senior vice president at Omaha National Bank and longtime Country Banking head. He retires this month. A plaque for 50 years in banking and a photo folder were presented, with an umbrella souvenir from his Livestock National Bank days.

Stolen Car Recovered Minutes After Theft Near Sterling
A 1965 Chrysler stolen in Sterling Colorado at about 10 p m was recovered 40 minutes later four miles south of Sidney by State Patrol Troopers Jack Robinson and Ken State. The driver Jose Vento 17 of Lafrga Texas and passenger Jose Montes 18 of Mexico City Mexico were jailed in Sidney then returned to Sterling. They said they were headed for Minatare hitchhiking.

Decision On Interchange Site Expected Latter Part Of July

Lindley 91 a longtime Lodgepole Western Nebraska grocer died Monday at Memorial Hospital Sidney after about two weeks as a patient Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a m in the Lodgepole United Methodist Church with Rev Dr Sidney McCaig officiating Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery Memorials may be given to Lodgepole United Methodist Church He was born December 22 1878 in Roseville Illinois married Elizabeth Grebe January 1 1901 in DeWitt Nebraska she died 1945 he married Bess Likens in 1946 He lived in Western Nebraska since 1913 operated a Lodgepole grocery on Highway 30 later sold the store and helped out He served on the Lodgepole town board and was a member of Goldenrod Lodge AF AM and the United Methodist Church Surviving are his widow three sons Glenn Riverside Calif Allen Lodgepole Harry Hayward Calif two daughters Fern Cox and Ruth Spires Riverside Calif 14 grandchildren 31 great grandchildren and one son Cecil preceded him in death.

Wething reports that over half the wheat fields in western Development and eastern Cheyenne counties show spindly wheat with one to three tillers and no mesocotyl. Deer Struck By Car On Highway 30 West Of Sidney
A deer was killed and a 1968 Ford sedan sustained $500 damage after a collision on Highway 30 ten miles west of Sidney at about 5 30 this morning. Miss Peggy Simmerman, 24, of 2228 Blackfoot Road, drove westbound when the deer leaped into the path. Trooper Ron Gusman of the Nebraska State Patrol investigated the accident.
