Reasons Mums Don't Bloom in Gardens

Wayne Whitney of the University of Nebraska cites low fertility disease and poor location as key causes of poor chrysanthemum blooms. Mums need full sun good air circulation and well drained soil. Three applications of fertilizer are advised last after bud visibility. Water during heat and avoid wetting foliage to prevent disease. Weekly sprays may be needed but stop after buds color. If no buds appear this year replace plants and relocate if necessary.
