A Three-Year Sentence by Judge Grimes notes improvements in county education under Supt. Knox. The article highlights expansion and progress of county educational affairs toward a higher plane.
Joe Kinney a tramp from Newcastle Wyoming was brought to the county for a preliminary hearing on burglary charges. He waived examination and was bound over to the district court on $2000 bond and later pled guilty. Judge Grimes sentenced him to three years in the penitentiary with hard labor and costs.
Cheyenne county reports a new schooling direction with growth next year. Sidney graduates six from eleventh grade while five exit tenth grade from Potter and Bayard. Eight graders earn diplomas in districts Sunol Chimney Rock Hillside, including Roy Gorman. Misa Whitehead at Potter praised for aiding school advancement.
The Woman's Guild of Christ Episcopal Church held its annual meeting May 12 at the Rectory. Officers elected for the year: Mrs. W. P. Miles president, Mrs. A. K. Greenlee vice president, Mrs. Frank Winkleman secretary, Miss Katherine Salle treasurer. Plans spoke of a June 22 party at Tobin Opera House. Parish officers were chosen May 16: Dr. R. D. Harris senior warden, Dr. A. D. Stowitu junior warden, A. K. Greenlee Ed. McLernon and Leslie Neubauer vestrymen.
Lodgepole villagers opposed issuing a coming year license for L DeBruner. The Village Board granted it after objections. Judge Grimes ruled last Saturday that DeBruner sold liquor to underage persons in the past year and cancelled the license.

Lloyd Remsburg was in town Wednesday and land buyers were in town this week. Memorial Sunday services will be held May 28 in the M E church. Richard Thumer from Bridgeport and George Cramer from Deep Holes were in Sidney. The Methodist church received a fine new organ. The High School Alumni banquet is set for June 5 at the Harper Opera House. J G Glenn has become clerk at the Metropolitan under Dedrick. The Union Pacific tracks washed out near Elm Creek delaying rail traffic. Fresh and salt meats and fish are available at Heinzman’s.
The Sidney public schools close for the summer vacation on June 2 with commencement at Tobin Opera House. The six graduates Mary M. Epps Lena L. Jessen Genestin L. Clarke Ida L. Hammer Iran Kline and Clayton Radcliffe will receive diplomas. Graduation programs include solos and the address by Hon. James L. McIntosh followed by diplomas.
The Omaha World Herald notes more indictments may be issued against cattlemen indicted in 1903 for illegal fencing. Settlers fear testifying, but rising land values and the Kinkaid act may encourage testimony and aid fence removals. Civil actions seek fence removal. contempt could lead to prison, while criminal convictions carry at most one year. Widows who claimed land under the act are cited as instrumental to extending cattlemen control.
The church schedules Holy Communion at 7:40 a m and Evening Prayer with a sermon at 7:40 p m. Morning Service at 11:00 a m will discuss well founded public opinion. The rector begins seven sermons on Character including Thought and Character and Conscience and Character with Sub conscious Character. Public invited. Evening services now start at 7:30.
Mr. Mackley who had been negotiating to buy the Lewis ranch just west of town chose not to locate in Cheyenne county and has returned to his former home in LaSalle Colorado.
Thursday night rains hit Sidney with widespread effects. Mrs H A Moore visits relatives in Kimball county while A B Knox dines at Quinn ranch. Josephine Sharmer travels to Lodge Pole to visit Viola Young. Attorneys Miles and McIntosh to Greeley on business. Ladies assist Mrs Griffith with tea in her new home. Decoration Day plans loom with Rev Frost delivering the address and full program next week. Lincoln Journal notes county superintendent Mrs Knox being offered a position in Alliance Junior Normal. Kearney endures hail and heavy rain causing crop, glass, bridge, and animal losses. UP track washed, trains delayed. Wyoming Tribune reports 100 men clearing a rock slide at Edson, with main line traffic resuming in about ten days. Sanford Dodge stages Macbeth at Tobin Opera House. Lady Macbeth praised. Burlington and Union Pacific tax cases reach U S Supreme Court. Brown to file brief and seek early hearing in Sept. Denver dispatch: bids open for North Platte irrigation project. Kilpatrick Brothers & Collins win divisions 3 and 5, Orman & Croox bid entire work. E J Sweet promotes White Lily and White Chief flour.
