Record Crowd Attends Armed Forces Day at Sioux Ordnance Depot
A large crowd from Sidney and surrounding areas visited the Sioux Ordnance Depot grounds on Armed Forces Day. Ira Johnson reported 1674 registered attendees, a new base record, with 1036 taking guided bus tours covering about 15 miles and an hour and a half. The day featured 850 employees, 50 miles of rail, 202 miles of road, and 200 depot families. Col George C Abert welcomed visitors, noting the turnout possibly tops any Armed Forces Day event in the country.

Lodgepole Flyer Is Killed In Texas Airplane Accident
Clarence Donald Johnson, 30, of Lodgepole, died after a plane he was flying for Don Brown Flying Service crashed near Canadian Texas while spraying crops. He escaped the wreck but perished from burns. Survived by wife Joyce and two children, plus brothers Billie Lee and Frankie. Funeral May 21 at Lodgepole Methodist Church. Burial in Chappell cemetery.

Riewe Wins Teen-Age Safe Driving Test at Sid ney High
Sidney High senior Howard Riewe won the Teen-Age Safe Driving Road-E-O with 483 points, besting runner-up Tom Rogers at 459 and third-place Dean Osborn with 456. Riewe and Rogers scored 96 on written tests. Riewe also achieved 291 of 300 on driving. The event, sponsored by the Jaycees and local sponsors, featured thirteen contestants and a four-course driving layout.

Mrs Glantz Dies After Two Months Illness in Sidney
Mrs Marie Katherine Glanz 63 died Friday in De Paul Hospital Cheyenne after one day there. Wife of William Glanz, she lived in Sidney 34 years and was in failing health about two months. Funeral Tuesday 2 pm at Holy Trinity Church Sidney with Gehrig & Son and Rev Henry Monnich. Burial Greenwood Cemetery. Born March 1 1895 in Frank Russia to John and Anna Kissler Graskop, she married Glanz Feb 3 1914 at Lamar Colorado. Family moved to Sidney 1924. Naturalized citizen, longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Survived by husband four daughters Esther Henderson Marie Johnson Elsie Green Violet Jackson, six grandchildren one great grandchild. one son deceased. Sister Anna Wise Scottsbluff and brother John Graskopf Mitchell also survive.

Gurley Robbery Nets Burglars Cash And Loot
Sheriff W. W. Schulz reports a break in at the Skelly service station in Gurley on Saturday night netting thieves over 200 dollars in cash and assorted merchandise. Entry was gained by breaking a window pane and the culprits exited through an outside door. The haul included oil repair parts accessories candy gum and cigarettes plus two books of green stamps.
