The Nebraska and federal division of statistics reports about 130 percent abandonment of winter wheat, with 74 percent condition remaining. Southwestern Nebraska sees the heaviest losses. rye at 72 percent, pasture 64 percent, and tame hay 67 percent. Wheat yield is indicated at 45,026,000 bushels vs 70,868,000 last year, with moisture shortages and high winds driving the declines. More rains in February aided wheat, but subsoil moisture remains short and extra May rainfall is needed for a good crop.
