Aid Boost for Dependent Children Affects 32 Cheyenne Families

Nebraska lawmakers approved LB 416 moving ADC payments from 85 to 100 dollars monthly per family with one dependent and 18 dollars per additional child. In Cheyenne County 32 families were receiving the maximum. eligibility for the new maximum will depend on need. The measure, introduced by Otto Partsche and Orme, takes effect 90 days after adjournment.

Jimmy Dorsey Band To Play At Lodgepole

Dale Flora Named President of Dalton Lions Club

Dale Flora was elected president of the Dalton Lions Club at Tuesday night’s annual officer election. Kenneth McRoberts became first vice president, William Waite second vice president, Rev. Joan Rupley third vice president, Albert Kruger secretary, and Dudley Jillson treasurer. Other officers include Warren Hathaway tail twister and Edward Lessman Lion Tanner. Directors for two year terms are Sam Michal and John Heizer.

Band Plans Benefit Dance To Fund Portland Rose Festival Trip

Sidney band members will canvass city neighborhoods Friday to sell tickets for a benefit dance Saturday night at the Armory. Proceeds fund a trip to Portland for the Rose Festival. Millard Music and his band donate their services. Tickets cost 1 for adults and 50 cents for schoolchildren.

Council approves permits and road closure for carnival area

City Council permitted nine building projects totaling about 55 000 including a 25 000 brick office at 1110 10th Ave by Rankin Building Co of Torrington Wyoming. Also approved 15 000 Maple and 13 500 Monterey Drive homes, a 1 200 car garage, a 30 sign, and closure of 12th Ave between Linden and Jackson for Fort Sidney Days carnival. They also authorized foreclosure action on nine sewer districts for non payment.

Lyle Mather Named City Offices Manager and Accountant

Lyle Mather, 34, of Sidney, will become city offices manager and accountant, succeeding Jim Willis who resigned to become City Finance Officer in Richland, Washington. Mather starts duties May 25 after previously serving as office manager of Wheat Belt Power District for seven years and working for a Pueblo accounting firm as a CPA.

Cole Circus to Show Here in Sidney Thursday May 21

According to John Frazier, general agent, the Cole Circus will perform in Sidney on Thursday May 21. Now in its fiftieth year, the circus promotes entertaining acts and animal spectacles. A convoy of 20 trucks with over 100 animals will arrive the morning of May 21 with crews and equipment. tent erection begins around 7 am. The public may watch the elephant team set up and many wild animal cages will be open for free inspection from 9 am to 11:30 am.

Colorado Man Jailed For Reckless Driving

Kenneth L. Lycans, 35, is held in the city jail on a willful reckless driving charge after a chase through the city at speeds up to 60 mph. Police pursued him Monday evening following an improper left turn and reports say Safety Patrol had sought him for running cars off the road that same night.

Charges to be filed over teen prom night motel party

County Attorney F. L. Balderson said charges will be filed related to a Junior-Senior Prom party at a local motel. Deputies found about 50 youths, mostly teens, drinking and socializing. investigation continues to identify liquor suppliers and organizers.

Read's Army Surplus burglary leads to pleas and bonds

Horton, Hortoni and Willis were arrested after a Read's Army Surplus Store burglary in Sidney. Horton pleaded guilty at a county hearing and was bound over to District Court with a $500 bond. Willis waived a preliminary hearing and faces a May 21 appearance with a $300 bond. Four pistols, a box of cartridges, three shoulder holsters and two pairs of feather gloves were stolen following the break in. A railroad employee tip aided the arrest.
