Voter Turnout Dips in Cheyenne County All Star Primary

Cheyenne County Nebraska saw 2 454 votes in the All Star Primary with 1 541 Republicans 892 Democrats and 21 Independents. Total fell short of 1972’s 3 003 and 45 percent of the 5 477 registered voters. County Clerk Hessle cited lack of school board and city council elections in Sidney as a factor.

In Nebraska's presidential primary Ronald Reagan won 54 percent to Ford's 46 percent as Frank Church edged Carter for the Democratic spot. Reagan carried 88 of 93 counties and led in delegate races amid a $125000 campaign. Church touted a political miracle born of a seasoned ground effort and campaigning in 11 communities.

Decker may appeal 3 2 vote against liquor license

Sidney businessman Bob Decker said he may appeal to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission after the city council refused his application for a package liquor license in a 3 2 vote. Decker plans to refile or seek state action, contesting concerns raised by council members and local liquor store owners about competition and store layout.
