Wheat at 60 cents per bushel in Cheyenne county yesterday with a 2 cent advance amid brisk trading. May wheat near 74 cents at Chicago, July 75, September 75 3 4, December 78. December corn 49 3 4, September 48 1 4, May 44. Hog bids at Omaha reached 4 dollars. Chicago hog price near 4 50. Futures rose 3 cents while cash wheat moderated.

Theta Gamma Epsilon anunciared that Dale Flora of Gurley won its $12.50 prize for greatest advancement in beginning journalism at Midland College Fremont this week. Flora, a Midland sophomore and son of Mr and Mrs S J Flora, follows brother George who received the same prize two years ago.
Busacker will face Sidney’s Bill Busacker in a bout with Ralph Atchison at Broadwater Saturday night. Poole plans to push Busacker as a top attraction in the North Platte valley. A pattie royal is listed as another feature on the Broadwater card.
The emergency conservation committee of Cheyenne county reports army surgeons will conduct preliminary exams for boys enrolled in emergency conservation work. About 207 boys in sector 15 will meet at the North Platte courthouse and then proceed to Fort Crook for a two week conditioning program, vaccination, and final physicals before entering work. Dates for examinations are not yet announced.
The county sanity board ruled Bismarck Runge, a prominent farmer, will stay in the county jail for two or three weeks for observation instead of immediate transfer to the asylum. Dr. R. E. Roche will assess Runge’s condition to determine if he can gain permanent temper control, with family and neighbors describing prior trouble and urging a chance for rehabilitation.
The senate approved the conference committee report on H. R. 601, a claims bill with 102000 dollars in appropriations drawn partly from the highway gas tax fund. Green of Sidney and McCarter of Bayard opposed, citing denied antelope and omitted Scotts Bluff county claims. Purdy stated the issue had been settled by prior actions.
The Sidney softball league plans a 14 week season starting next Tuesday if weather clears. Eight teams will each play two games weekly for 28 games total, followed by a possible playoff. The state and federal agriculture division reports an abnormally short winter wheat season in Nebraska. Of 2,890,000 acres sown last fall, 2,023,000 remain harvestable amid 30 percent abandonment especially in western Nebraska. Production may total 337,485,000 bushels, about 66.7 percent of normal, the smallest since 1904, worsening farm problems.
Daniel T. Mathews, 22, of Sidney, missing for two weeks, was found by Denver police after claiming to feel strange. A billfold with his wife Mrs Dan T. Mathews’s name helped confirm identity. Sidney Chief Livoni notified and urged return after he recovers. The family has faced no support since his disappearance.
The 49th Nebraska legislature, longest in decades, closes after about 200 bills. Economy drives the four month session with emergency measures and farmer focus. Beer legalization stands out in prohibition history as tax shifting dies. large savings target a major appropriation bill.
Senator Green of Sidney pushes amendments to last April resolution to let the Senate proceed alone if needed and investigate cost and improvement of state, county, municipal and school district government at a 6000 dollar expense. A committee is named with Lieut Governor Jurgensen joining Green Welch and Srd. McCarter ex officio. The House speaker may appoint a parallel committee and serve as member. The fund would come from the legislature expense, with no pay for members beyond hotel and travel costs. Objections cite constitutional limits on extra compensation and nonpay status.
Sidney high school will award diplomas to forty two seniors next Wednesday in the auditorium. I. E. Stutsman of Greeley Colorado will give the commencement address. Valedictorian Bernice Narjes and salutatorian Joan Bicknell will speak and receive honors. The program includes the high school orchestra, J W Cochran violin solo, invocation by Rev J H Roe, and diplomas presented by O A Olson. Baccalaureate services are Sunday night at the high school with Rev Roe delivering the sermon.
Sidney and Sterling typing students tied for first in a Sterling business college contest last Saturday. Sterling won Typing I and Shorthand I team events, with Sidney placing second in Typing I and Shorthand I. Individual honors went to Clara Mack Dailey first in Typing I, Helen Ayle second for Sidney, and John Delander third for Haxtun.
The annual spring open golf tourney will be held Sunday April 21 at Sidney Country Club. Eighteen holes medal play, entry with dinner priced at 1.50. Top golfer Jay Closman of Sidney expected to defend title as trophies and awards await. course recently soaked by heavy rains. fairways improving if storms abate.
Sidney World War veterans are urged to honor fallen comrades by wearing a memorial poppy on Poppy Day Saturday May 27. Ed Runge commander of the local American Legion post says wearing the poppy is the personal tribute and pledge to remember the war dead and the ideals for which they died.
Nebraska senate introduced a bid to impeach Saline County Judge Beaton for his role in the conviction of 16 men who sought to halt a Wilbur mortgage foreclosure on March 14. The measure failed 21 to 2 and was expunged. Harry Lux of Lincoln, organizer of the Farm Holiday Association, was fined 250 dollars for contempt of court and 100 dollars for unlawful assembly.
Vern L. Ringer and Dick Taylor were arrested on liquor charges after raids on their homes by Sheriff Forsling. Five cases of beer were seized at Ringer’s home and wine and beer were found at Taylor’s. Complaints alleged sales to high school students. Each man paid a $112.50 fine. Taylor is well known in Sidney.
Kimball men Roland Rodman S. E. Torgeson and William Bates were guests of the Lions club at a Wednesday noon regular meeting. C. A. Peake Jr. of the Gibson Motor company also attended as a guest and spoke briefly on general improvement of business conditions.
